That's fine Samba, but to be so demeaning must be a violation of the judge's code of conduct. Unacceptable.

Yes, I agree the comment was just crass and uncalled for.

I think there are some judges a nice working line dog could do well under.  I have seen German SL out there too and with CH earned.

I talked to some all breed judges and they say they seldom get a nice shepherd brought to them.  Perhaps they might judge by the standard as written and give correctly put together dogs a look.

Joann is a great sport, and takes training her dogs very seriously, has a great sense of humor, and just has fun with her dogs...Love her,  Lida

Typical for AKC

Glad you kept your KEWL

When I was younger it bothered me when I took my Parti colored cocker spaniels for evaluation and use to go to shows and did at one time almost let one of mine go back to HOUSTON  with a well know cocker sp. handler...Glad I did not.

Your dogs are great looking and the Little Della may mature into a nice girl...just  watch ...

Then take her back into the same Judges ring.

If anyone wants to try taking a jab at showing to a judge that judges dogs and not the handler than that would be Lee Brown..He has judged the Canadian national and the GSDC of AM national....He loves a balanced, not extreme dog...He judges the dogs on that day and not how the dog has done in the past..He has his opinions and  knows what the German Shepherd  standard is......He loves a strong male and a nice bitch that represents what a bitch should be....I will say this, He is VERRRRRY hard on temperament, as all judges should be...

How is temperament judged/emphasized in the AKC show ring?

A friend just recently had an AKC judge wrap his arms around her male GSD and try to pull him forward...... needless to say that did not go over well.

Seriously???  In the ring?  This was the judges idea of a temperament test???  Bizarre!

How is temperament judged/emphasized in the AKC show ring?

Judge examines teeth/ testicles. On coming and going gaiting, dog must be able to return on loose lead and allow judge to drop his hand in front of dog and pat him on the head. Any dog that attempts to bite the judge is disqualified.

<<<<<How is temperament judged/emphasized in the AKC show ring?>>>>

If a judge approaches a dog being shown, and the dog slouches down, backs away, or refuses to let the judge touch him to feel for hidden confirmation faults, or check testicles, that would be considered a bad temperament...
A confident dog will stand and allow these things to take place with no evidence of being shy......
I am not saying that on a bad day these things may happen. But A good judge can read a dog and usually can conclude or get an idea of the dog's action......I once had a young bitch that refused to let the judge run his hand down her back onto her tail. She sat and spun around.....Little did we realize that she was coming into her first heat....So we learned not to show her when she was due to come in heat... She latter became CH. ROHAN'S GLASS SLIPPER   ROM. She is on the database if anyone is interested.

Hope this helps clarify your question...
