Well I usually just let things happen. I usually have around 20 litters a year and my females produce. I usually double my bitches food to 2 cups/day of Ol' Roy when they got "moneymakers" in the belly.

LOL, Sam! Cut that out! The crazy Malinios bitch I just picked up was fed Ol'Roy and she looked suprisingly good! I was shocked......not going to try it though! LOL

Mystere, I wouldn't be offended by your disbelief, because the few studies aimed at the subject haven't garnered a lot of attention, and neither are the mechanisms at work in affecting offspring sex ratio completely understood at this point, to offer "indisputable proof". At current stage, they are only proposed theories.
But, (and this is the important part) the results are conclusive, and as a pragmatist, I'd say "if it works, use it". And it does work, just can't yet be explained why the approach works, or the parameters of effectiveness, or what limitations or crossaffects could cause it to fail. But the results have been consistently reproduceable.
I had wished to personally experiment more in gender influence, but haven't had the opportunity the last few years. It's suggested that the optimal "time window" for emphasizing influence through the maternal diet is during the preimplantation period of development, which is 0-4.25 days after mating. As you mentioned, the "type" of fat and protein is significant.

Daryl,
On the Dianabol, and WinstroL fliers, the manufacture of these steroids put
in the boxes they come in, is a warning. Caution to pregnant woman, may cause masculation of the fetus.
Fats and protein may have a similar effect on the hormone balance. May be not as profound. Hormones are made
primarily by fatty acids, but some are made from proteins also. Sex hormones come from fatty acids.
I had to think about this one for a while like Mystere. But it is possible

Dianabol, and WinstroL? You sure you mean to address me?

Daryl,
Ya??? " Experiment but don't have the time"................ Masculation of the fetus.
It seems that may be, by overloading the bitch with food while she is pregnant, may in fact
dilute the fats. Thus giving the fats less chance to form fatty acid or fatty acids that are HD fatty acid
that would than be converted into male hormone. LD fatty acids may tend to form Female hormone.
So to summarize the point, if you dilute the hydrochloric acid by over feeding you will induce more female
hormone and less male hormone. Perhaps you have already consider that I don't really know.

It has always been my opinion that if you are to improve anything you must avoid manipulating the outcome by un-natural means.
Timing is natural, and feeding choices and practices is within these limits, but the selection of breeding stock is the true source of improvement.

Fat---------->fatty acid---------->cholesterol------------->hormone
The hydrogen side chain necessary to reduce androgen into male hormone
would be impeded if there was not enough acid available during digestion in the stomach.
Fat becomes cholesterol during the process of esterization were the water is driven off
the fatty acid thus forming a more waxy substance known as cholesterol. As you are aware
of High Density Cholesterol is good and Low Density is not good because is sticks to the
wall of your arteries.

If any practices of feeding were true to determine pup gender, then why would it be suggested for the dam's diet, when the stud dog determines the sex of the puppies?

by Two Moons on 29 July 2010 - 18:07
Many factors can have an effect on the sex of offspring.
I don't believe in manipulating the outcome is all.
