can't get rid of cocci "for good" when it lives in the ground.  Albon works very well as a preventative and treatment for diarrhea caused by coccidea infestation - key word is "prevention" - having never heard of Marquis before, but did read up a little bit on it - appears to be a treatment for the immediate problem, not a long-term solution.  Giving the puppies albon daily for 18 days or so is a good way to prevent problems in the litter - which is what I do with my puppies as a rule.   Works perfectly, and does clear up diarrhea quickly with adults and puppies.

Like I said so I have been told. It somehow stops the growth cycle. I do not remember all the details as it has been years since I used it.

I am only going off what I remember my vet saying.  Look it up, ask your vet.

Well, fecal cultures before the Marquis showed cysts and puppy fecals after showed not a one. We did the treatment for 3 days and retreated at 2-3 weeks ( can't remember which) and never had a problem again. As a precaution I also treated all of my adult dogs though they showed no signs. We never had a coccidia problem again. I believe the Marquis is for horses. My vet diluted it down for the puppies and gave me the correct dosage.

My vet uses and recommends Albon, as does all of the vets I've worked with since starting breeding 17 years ago.  I have never heard of Marquis.  And my current vet is also a bovine/equine vet.  But, whatever works, is my motto.  I'll definately keep that in mind.

this is one article I found - written by a breeder who uses marquis.   According to this article - Marquis does not kill coccidea.  Only prevents it from growing in the puppy.  Albon kills coccidea, but must be used for longer-term than Marquis, to kill it- over the growth cycle of the protazoa.

I also know someone who treated there whole kennel with this stuff and coccidia was never a problem again. How, I have no clue only telling you what they told me.

You can buy it full strength and dilute it yourself. It is expensive at about 100.00 a tube but the tube lasts a long time.

I would go with Tylan. It's a very good antibiotic, not used on dogs very often, so a lot of bacteria the dogs get, are not resistant to Tylan.

I have used Albon and it worked fine for the one (1) incidence of Coccidia suffered by an import puppy. I placed that puppy in isolation so I could keep his area free from other traffic. He did fine and I never had an occurence of it again.
