I am not sure the added expense of purchasing crates just to eat in is the best idea... Why don't you just simply feed the dogs separately. I have 5 dogs and I feed them separately - so I know exactly how much they are eating. They come into my kitchen one at a time and eat their dinner....
I have a crate for each of them and each one of them knows which crates is their crate. They know this because I put them there over and over and they automatically go to that one. But I use them just to sleep in at night. It doesn't seem practically to purchase more crates...

ace what about lifting her bowl? My male dog is a slow eater and my 5 m. old puppy inhales her food, so she would bully him away from his bowl and finish his, I started lifting his bowl into plastic (made for garden) side table that¿s right at his level and even though she could reach rim of the bowl she can't put her head in a bowl to eat so...so after 2 tries she does not even come around his " bowl stand"...just another option.

Yogi....you're correct.....I think it's partly the OCD in me that wants the wire crates, they line up against the wall so much nicer than the airline ones. ROFL..
LadyFrost. That's a great idea. I think I might try that.....maybe....my 4 month old is almost as big as the 2 year old. He's a monster....but it might work.
Maggie....ventilation isn't a HUGE concern for me, the Dog room gets warm during the day in the summer when the dogs are in other parts of the house, but at night I open up the sliding door and the windows on each end of the room and it cools down considerably....even in the summer here it dips down close to freezing temperatures. I'm in Northern Canada.

Ace - if you or OCD then you dont need to -purchase any crates..............feed them seperately and your problem is solved...................having crates to feed in, to sleep in, etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not so productive............... let the, sleep in their respective crate but eating will be a control situation with you

I have an elderly Great Dane, who eats very slow. I had to teach Prince at a young age to wait at a sit, next to his food bowl. I would give the Great Dane about a minute to eat, then release Prince. By the time Prince finished the old gal was done.....
