I'd be scared to have someone like that in a neighborhood where there are kids running around, let alone pets.

I can't even say what I'd to to this guy if he was my neighbor. No seriously, I'd go to jail just for saying what I'd do.

I hope the guy is not going to get away with this.

Makes me sick. My rescue GSD (the one in my avatar) has two gunshot pellets in her, one in the base of her tail and one in her flank area. What in the world is wrong with people??? This guy is dangerous and needs to put away. Grrrrrrr

My prayers and love to Ms VanLiew and especially her children.  I know (from experience) exactly how she feels.

THANK GOD THIS INCIDENT MADE THE PAPERS -- HAD IT HAPPENED IN APPALACHIA WE'D HAVE NEVER KNOWN.

Our experience here:
Febuary 14th, 2005 a neighbor backed his pickup through a CLOSED (and 'posted') powerfully electrified gate, leading 2 of our german shepherd's onto his property where Isaiah was capped in the head -- judging from body's position w/ repsect to tire tracks, from the driver's seat of the truck. Teddi, the female wasn't found for several days... she crept home sore dehydrated and with broken ribs. The vet said she'd been run over.

Only 5-6 weeks later, I returned home from taking my son to school to see Teddi, and her 6 mo old pup Valki "Run Down" in the middle of the road. I say "run down" as the bodies were within 40" of one another on the "Middle Paint Stripe" of one side of the 4 lane...  Directly in front of the store owned by our charming neighbor. I immediately called animal control -- who's agent arrived within 30 minutes. Somehow the dog's bodies had been removed by then.

To my grateful surprise, Knox County Animal Control and their agents were helpful, and (REALLY!!) truly supportive, to the extent they encouraged me to file an "internal affairs" charge @ Knox County Sherrif's dept for deputy's refusal to file a report, and also investigating the bodies disappearance, helping me claim my dog's remains from the Highway Department -- frankly stating "Highway Department always calls US to get them -- this had to be an inside thing".

Unfortunately (I have PTSD to a disabling extent) it was impossible for me to follow through with "internal affairs". It was all I could do to survive the "internal boomerang" and help my son to cope.

Later the same summer, when my son had unchained his Labrador Mix and came inside for his fish-pole, the 10 month old pup was shot in broad daylight. My kid -- 5 years later -- has only now occaissionaly begun to take an interest in the river he once spent many happy afternoon's wading with his dogs...

===========

Does anyone have any follow-up on this story? Perhaps there's a community support effort?

Once again, in addition to deep compassion for this family, I am grateful beyond words this matter came to the attention of the media. I can only imagine how many OTHER such incidents DO NOT.

Of course, or beloved media will instantly pounce on any report of a dog "mauling" a human, with gory details... and there's no shortage of community support (equally deserved! it's just sad it's not equally available) for those victims.

God Bless

i thank god i live where i do (right now). small housing development on 2 cul de sacs, many with dogs (some small & yappy, some big & YAPPY [lol]), but we all seem (!?!) to deal decently with it. we have not had police or animal control out here for any of our animals. i really want to move somewhere more rural after our son grads from hi-school, but, geez, i don't want to have to be armed everytime my dogs go out! what is wrong with people? it's utterly bizarre that people are so ugly and hostile! i never want to be in the situation where i'd have to shoot my neighbor to protect my dog...

What this man needs is a small jail cell, for a very long time.

I really don't care about his "psyche".

There should also be a civil suit and sell everything he has and give it to the family he harmed.

When he dies, he will go to hell.

They should make him stand on a busy street holding a sign stating "I kill puppies for shits and giggles" and let the public handle it...oh and he should be chained by the neck to a pole or tree or something so that he can't run off.  That would be a nice start to what I could do to him...if only I was allowed to exact my kind of justice.  Sick bastard.
