Clint you are funny -  I think your statment would be humorous with with "schutzhund" people....humorous in the fact that alot of people already have a dog when the try schutzhund - and then get into the sport and decide they need another dog that might can do it a little better -  - already trying to debate --"might need a new dog?   I can't say how many people come with a dog to the field with a dog 'me included'  then after being in for a while - go get another dog more suited.....schutzhund is addictive...

I SAY GO FOR IT. As we all can probably attest to, once you get into dogs you never go back. I would advise the club that your new and have lots of questions. Thats what I did when I found a club I wanted to join. If the members didnt seem to keen on me asking, then I kept looking for a club that did want to answer my questions. It helps the members too get to know you and see that you want to learn. I think its a win win situation. YOU GO !!!!!

The biggest thing for me to do in dogs after 60 years with them is to breed a litter of Puppies. I think i would be on cloud nine to see them little Buggers come into the world
As for Leicsters Dog Handler i say go for it, listen and take it all in, 20 years old is a great age to start to become a Helper but it is not as easy as it sounds, a  huge amount to learn some helpers through there inexperince can mess a Dog up it takes time going on the Lads over here, Plus you may think you are strong but may also find you will need to toughen up and do a bit of work on the body but whatever you do have fun

Don't understand why you would buy a new dog. Just try it out with the dog you have, or keep one of your puppies. You'll never get the answer to our question on a board, just go along on Sunday mornings and let us know how you get on.

First - there is no such thing as a stupid question. Nobody came out of the womb knowing how to train a dog in any discipline; we all had to start somewhere and the best are still learning.

Secondly - there is no rush to buy a dog, you learn more my watching and listening and asking questions than working a dog, it can benefit you when you DO get one.

Thirdly - if I had the balls to turn up to a club with an unusual gundog and get a BH, AD, FH1 and 2 with it you should have no probs turning up with or without one!

Fourthly - by watching, listening, sorting the wheat from the chaff and learning you will then be in a better place to decide where you want to go for a dog should the sport attract you.
