Michael, you basically answered your own question. The key words: the dog is from high drive working lines. Does your friend do ant type of training with him? Such genetical driven dog will find itself a job if you dont provide one. Getting him Ofa'd and chipped maybe wasnt the greatest experience for him, and he is holding somewhat of a crudge just letting now out what was waiting underneath the skin all along. Showing agression, and getting away with it is a big booster for his confidence at this age. Summasumarum, your friend has to take control over this situation and work with a trainer. Get the dog out of the yard biking, running, hiking ect. He will always be protective of his turf and his person, you wont be able to change that. The matter is to control it, and this is up to your friend. This can include you as well so the dog becomes more acceptive of you.

Bhaugh, I think you have nailed the behavior, or at least given some insight. There has been a change in the pack structure to a degree, the wife of my friend has recently become unemployed and now spends more time with the dog. My friend and his wife were in the yard with the dog, there was a mock attack [ playfully] against the wife and the dog responded with agression toward my friend. They thought this was kinda cute and repeated the scenario  a couple of times since then with the same results from the dog.

Elkoor, You are also correct in your assesment, it has always been apparent that the dog was confident with very good nerve, I guess the scenario stated above allowed it to surface and released the confidence he needed to become somewhat agressive. The only training the dog has had at this point is some on leash obedience and a little prey work when he was around 12-14 months.

To every one else who replied, thanks for taking the time to read and give an opinion, this is the kind of participation that keeps this forum usefull in the manner that was intended.                        Michael
