Call me stupid. What was the purpose of the test in the video? I do not want to badger you I really want to know.

Also you idea about eliminating defense from the dog's mind and training is just as bad as eliminating prey from the dog's mind and training. The reason is that the dog which is trained in prey only as you seem to prefer may one day get pushed into defense. The dog who is not trained how to deal with the stress of the pressure inducing defense will then inevitably fold it when he encounters such situation.
If the dog would never go into defense and always be in prey then your desire would be good. But that is just wishful thinking.

I don't think testing defensive drive should be eliminated from all training.

Purpose of the test, I have explained that several times.... but for you Hans I will reveal the truth, believe it or not;

I was just frikking around having fun frikking around with my dog like everything else I do, makes me laugh watching the idiot go off.

I make up some plan afterwards cos the above explanation is never enough folks.

Like that session that bag was full of plastic bags some business threw in a recycle skip-bin, I like cool find, hit the dog with this on the way in.

So what is it about failing equipment test. Where did the dog fail? Because he has high prey drive and is reflexively catching moving objects in the air that does not mean that he failed and that he is equipment oriented. To catch and moving object ( meaning equipment or not) , check it and spit it out is not failed action.  That is normal reaction of a dog with decent prey drive. Failed action would be if the dog would play with it and became continually focused on the object. You can train the dog to completely ignore the moving objects  and tripping his prey reaction but that takes some training and not just frikking around as you call it.  In any case the dog focuses on a decoy for one reason or another ( civil or not) and not on the objects on the ground which shows that he has pretty good  level of civil focus on a person . Because if he would be totally equipment oriented, then he would pick  some of the equipment on the ground and would forgot the decoy. The question if he is in prey or defense is open since he is going back and forth which is good. BTW. The reason why he is refocusing from equipment in his mouth on the decoy is caused by defense . So I would be careful what you wish for when you say that you want strictly prey in your dog. If he would be strictly prey and equipment dog then he would play with the stuff on the ground - that would be his natural reaction. Since instinctively he would have no other reason to go after the decoy if there would be no prey. So it would be difficult to make him civil in prey if he would be strictly in prey.
