Oh heavens I must discust you I am guilty of all of the above at various times, and then some. It has nothing to do with my level of PRide, or respect. Well, you are all entitled to tout now and then. D.L. Sherman www.sherman-ranch.com

"Oh heavens I must discust you I am guilty of all of the above at various times, and then some." Sherman-Ranch GSD, ALL of the ABOVE? Oh my! Just kidding. It's slow around here.

I have cosen to adress, mostly, one comment since there are so many. Laris- Parts of your post are examples of what can happen when ”plain”(or everyday- or what ever you want to call it) instead of ”akademical “type of English.(not the best example I agree but it is one nevertheless) It¿s not clear weither you are addressing one perticular person,a number of persons or everyone on the site. To eliminate the possibility of miss-interpertation such as this one is the reason as to why I have chosen the academic English. Yes it requires longer, and often a higher number of lines but it¿s worth it since there can, most often, only be one way to interprit the text. This does not change if misstakes in spelling are made. The test that was carried out by a prestiges University in England that one person refered to earlier on the board was seen by some as a joke.Weither it was meant as one or not the test and the posted findings are real.If a person is knolligable in a language it does not matter if the letters ,or eaven words, have been tossed around. If the grammar is correct(or atleast close to it) this person will have no trouble understanding the text.If someone is reading the text word for word (as someone that is not so knolligable at it would)there will, however,be a problem. If the latter is the case of anyone who reads any of my texts the only thing that this person would have to do is to,either E-mail me and ask or post their question directally on the site. It serves no point to having such pride that it prevents you from asking others. At first I did use simple, everyday type of English on this site ,since there are many here that don¿t have this as their first language, but since some persons interpreted it entirely wrong, something that would not have been possible had I used the other more “high flying”version,I use this one instead. Ofcourse people will read what ever they want into what someone else has written but it is much harder to do so in the way of writing mentioned last. There are allot of people who make occational aswel as repeated misstakes in gramma but since it is still possible to understand what is written if one tryes a bit harder.(If that still does not help me I E-mail the person and ask them.)Therefor I see no reason to adress them or leave them out to dry on the board. There is simply no reason for me to do that.If I do not agree with someones oppinion I let them know that.I also list arguments as to why I don¿t agree.Therefor I have no reason to adress unrelated issues such as problem with grammar. I want to clearify to all of those who do not have English as their native toungh, that I do not meen that you have these types of problems. It is just as,if not more common with those that do have this as their native-toungh.

You mentioned that it would be better to use a word-prosessor since missunderstandings could otherwise occur.(as an answer to the first part of this I advise you to reread the first four paragraphs of this post.) It¿s not clear if you mean just mine,or several different peoples messages,I will therefor asume that you are adressing only me,if that is not true please let me know. I would therefor like you to post all the things in my posts that you think can be missinterprited. I¿m espessially interrested in those that “could lead to people hurting their dogs” since I find that very difficult to believe when I have not written anything that could mean that I advised anyone to use pain, punnishment, violence or aggression in the training of dogs.Infact I have only promoted the opposit. Be sure to also write what in what way that you think they could be interprited . I¿m going out of town ower christmas and.I will therefor mot likely not be able to get a hold of a computer during this time, and I will therefor not be able to answer you until I come back.So tak your time I find it very interresting that the only people who complain about my spelling are people who dissagree with me.Don¿t you? It is strange that they use this instead of putting words to their feelings and get some credible arguments and use them instead. It¿s not exactly unheard of for some people to use rationalisation in order to make their reactions and actions seem less strange no matter how absurd the outcome may be. This is destructive, mostly to themselves, but this psychological defence takes place virtually without realisation by the person itself I am therefor not surprised to see some of it here on this site. I am however somewhat dissillutioned over this site since I thought that it was a place where ,mostly, serious dogowners spent some of their time.I hope, and believe, that most visitors are.The fact that many for some reason don¿t get involved in cuestions - or “disgussions” such as this one. What reason they may have for this is no bodys business but their own.Sure it would most likely be bennificial if they did get involved in disgussions that may raise strange reactoins for some ,but if one doesn¿t feel like doing something one doesn¿t have to.

There is no reason for me to post things to try and justify my writings, but I will however do so to put an end to this unimportant disgission. I will refer to a test that I took a while back. Have anyone of you heard of the Cambrige Proficiancytest? For those of you who haven¿tI will explain it in short. It¿s the most difficult test of ones usage of the English language in the world at the moment, and it has been for quite some time now. It consists of several different parts that are graded seperately to ,in the end be combined to form ones final grade. The test takes plase over the timespan of several days. Each part is graded, if passed, A=wunderful,B=excellent and C=very good. (this test has a “little brother”,CAT, that is much easier and less prestiges. The mark A on that test is equivalent to good on the more difficult one) As an example of what I got on the Profisiency I will give you a couple of my grades. Vocabulary A Grammar A Spelling B Reading comprehansion A Etc. In total I recieved aprx 50% As and the rest were Bs,except for one, where one was supposed invent three stories that hade to contain sertain given words. Here I was only able to make up two wich led to me only recieving the grade C on this one. Since the the total score was calculated on the combined score I only recieved the grade B. That doesn¿t realy matter since when this testresult is used to gan access to universities and jobs there is not much notice taken if the final grade is A or B.It is however anoying for me to know that I was so close. . Befor atemting to use complaints instead of argument again I have a challange fore you. Chose a language that you started to learn at the age of ten.Therefor you spanich would not be acceptable if you are part hispanic ore live in an area where that language is often used. Take a test of simmilar standard as the proficiency and pass it with approximately the same grades. Refrain from using the language in cuestion for a couple of years. (the two following paragraph are not ment for Laris) Then start using it again on a website(no automatic spell-check,that¿s sheeting) and there you will write a aprx(this is not misspelt, this is short for aproximately) 1260 word message in less than 6 min on a subject that is greatelly appalling to you.You are not allowed to have more than 15 misspelt words(wich is 50% more than I hade) Remember to not use plain everyday conversation type of words or grammar, use the ones that are used in academic cirkles. Don¿t forget to make yourself busy with other things in your life,or at least pretend to,so that you hav very little time to attend this site.Remember to spend more time and use more effort makin sure that you understand other peoples posts perfectally befor writing your own. I dare you. I will not answer Kerrys post since it is too easy to missread due to its simplicity.(sorry, but I can¿t get a hold on your E-mail and I can therefor not mention this through it) Well ok I will adress one thing. It¿s true;typos happen all the time, espesially when crossing over betwean languages that are very different. It is eaven more likely for these to occur when using a laptop where the possitioning of the keys are different then the usual one and it¿s therefor easier to accidentally hit the wrong one etc. And No I ¿m not exactly the best pypest. I do dot own a wordprosessor in English an I don¿t iintend to get one.The best way to learn is through misstakes and if a word causes confusion or anyone feels that they whant to make me aware of something that I¿ve misspelt they can just E-mail me.

Laris- I want to thank you for your paragraph with constructive chritesism. If you have a problem with the text being to compact I will break itt up into paragraphs. I have previosely chosen not to do so since the text would become much longer but if that is a trade-off that is accseptable I will do so. Constructive chritesism is a good thing as long as it is just that and people doesn¿t just hide other types of chritesism behind the word. This is an example pressented is a text-book one.It pressents what the person actually has a problem with and it contains a solution .Thisa is actually the first real example that I have read under this subject(couting after the ost that I¿m answering).-Thank you Laris-

Zoe wrote: "And No I ¿m not exactly the best pypest." According to "a prestiges University in England" the acceptable way to spell the word "typist" is: tyispt tipyst tpyist tisypt tsyipt, etc. but not "pypest". Sorry... BTW, the above comment is not intended as constructive criticism, not does imply any hidden criticism. Lighten up, guys :-) Mrery Crhisamts to y'all!

A neighbour passed me a book by Jean Donaldson titled "The Culture Clash" last week and I am half way through it. It is an interesting insight of the dog psychology from a new perspective suggested by the author. Let me just quote a paragraph from the book on controlling excessive barking: "Dogs bark for a variety of reasons: 1) Watchdog Barking serves that dual purpose of alerting other pack members that there is an intruder............. 2) Request Barking is the dog's way of communicating to the owner that he would like something NOW......... 3) Spooly Barking occurs when the dog is fearful or uncomfortable about something in the environment......... 4) Boredom Barking can result when the dog's daily needs for exercise and social and mental stimulation aren't met..... The goal of any bark training is usually to limit the number of barks per sequence and sometimes to limit the number of contexts in which the dog erupts. Addressing the underlying issues of undersocialization and insufficient exercise and stimulation are also crucial....." I am looking forward to finishing the book and try out some of the suggestions made by the author. Laris

Sounds like a fun book, Laris. Yes, dogs DO have different recognizable barks. When my male greets someone, he sounds like a Bassett Hound: It's "gaWOO, gaWOO, gaWOO-WOO!" Really cute, but as one of my neighbors doesn't understand his language, she screams out her car door window, "SHHAADDAPPP!" He's started barking at her as if she's a threat, now.

It¿s natural that we all learn things at different timesin or lives, some learn the basics later than others. Considering that this site is supposedly used mainly by persons that are experienced and that have substantial knollige when it comes to dogs, the level as to which a large number of people seem to posses this type of knollige is supricingly low. It could in some cases eaven be concidered horrifying. Keeping this in mind it appares that the first impression I hade of this site ,as described , was a wrong one seems painfully evident. Again ,I don¿t consider learning the basics at differrent times to be a bad thing ,It does however have negative consequences when people lacking the allmost all but the most basic levels of knollige of the subject of canine-behaviour-and biology take part in discussions , that are atleast by some ,considered to be serious pressenting their unfounded theories as fact. Of course everyone should have their say ,but if a person is obviousely lacking the nessesary knollige to understand the subject and/or the arguments pressented it would be advisable for this person to observe the discussion while studying the subject ,or at least ask questions to get a better idea of the subject at hand, before including her/his comments.
