The next time you have a urge to educate the masses using ugly, offensive, graphic photos, I feel certain that Bee and I aren't the only members here who would appreciate your using links and warnings about the content. I'm wondering how you even found so many pictures of dead animals hanging from fences.

I am sorry that you feel that way. beetree if you think that" the graphics are too much" then think about  how horrible is  reality. Reality I want to prevent by showing you mere pictures.  To post a picture of a fence which can kill a dog is OK but to show consequence of such fence killing dogs offends your delicate  soul? That is curious. You know  I looked at the picture of that fence and I have remembered one  real dog who died on fence just like it!!!!  That is why I posted what I have. So give me a physical breake.

And blitzen you can find pictures like that on internet in 3 seconds. Your insinuation about me is sickening though. FYI:When I drive through remote areas I sometimes  see wildlife or domestic animals hanging on the fence. And you know what is the worst thing about this?! That people  who do not want to remember this" Horrible sight"  just look away and drive on.  Where I actually stop and cut the wire with ready( for that purpose)  wire cuter  to remove the dogs and coyotes and deer from these horrible situations so that they can live another day. So blitzen be careful what you insinuate.

Let me say this . People are oblivious and  forget. You can tell them million times do not do this or that or dog or even child may die. It does not work.  Does it??!                                                                                                                        Thousands of dogs and children dies in overheated cars. And children in bath tubs. Millions of dogs are put down in dog pounds because they are dumped there by people who think or made themselves think, that they get adopted. I would suggest that before people dump their dogs to pound they need to witness live  dogs  being put down.  Mothers with their pups!!!!!!!! But that is me and after all , I am jerk, as you say.

Thousands of dogs dies in swimming pools from which they can not or do not know how to  get out.  Dogs dies on and under fences and on chains. I have learned that just to warn people verbally does not work,  they do  not listen or they forget . I do not want you or anybody to forget and because of  such forgetfulness another dog to die.                       If that makes me a jerk or horrible person so be it. I'll wear it as a batch of honor.  I have learned that  when people are shocked  from obliviousness and  stupidity  into reality then they remember better.  The pictures I posted are reality. I do want people to remember that dog chained next to fence or try to jump a fence can die or drovn in unfamiliar swimming pool. Since there are people   whom  I just told  and  they did not remember what I said to them multiple times  ( they said to me)  and dog died. My dog which  I sold them. And they said you should have made it more clear. So I am.

I have seen enough dogs to die  from negligence and forgetfulness and stupidity  that I really do not care that you think that I am jerk. What I hope for is that  my post will save a life of  at least one dog.

Have some class and post your own thread with your gruesome content. Put "beware" in the topic. I then know  not to click on it. I notice this protocol  works fine for Mentayflor (?), why not you?

Or this is just an excuse to start up with the politics? Polite is what we need, not your memoirs.

Since I havebeen jerk let me now tell you ho to dog proof your yard.

1/ make fence around your dogs from tennins court fencing whci has small holes and dog can not put his paw in it.

example of tennis court fencing = small holes so that the tenninc ball don't get caught in it nor dogs foot:

2/ no horizontal wires

3/ on the perimeter =below the fence lay flat on the ground another fence and wire it solidly to the vertical fence.

Then cover the fence on th ground with dirt. That way the dog can not get himself under the fence and get away or get trapped and die.

4/ Make the fence as high as possible. 16 ft would be nice.

or make kennel to have a top:

5/ if the fence is 6 ft then or so ( do not rely on lower fence then 5 ft) cover the top part  with shading material so that the dog can not stick a foot in it and get caught.

6/ do not chain the dog ever to anything and leave it without supervision. if you do chain up the dog make sure that the chain

a/has at least 2 swivels.

b/ the collar to which it is attached is not choker  or pinch nut it is flat collar ONLY. Such collar should be snug enough that the dog can not back out of it and lose enough so that the dog is comfortable.

c/the chain can not reach any other object what so ever.

d/ remember that the chain can get wrapped around the attachment if it is on the ground

f/ one of the safer way to chain a dog is to hammer a pick up truck  axle through a bull ring and attach a swivel to it and then chain not longer then 6 ft. to it. and another swivel carbine ro attach to the collar.

g/ make sure that the do has shade and shelter

h/ and water in  a container which can not be tipped.

i/ chain should lay down on the ground flat.or come from high above.but not be 12/ in between so that the dog can get tangled.

i/BUT  BEST DO NOT DO IT.

NO!!! can get wrapped and tangeled

No!!! never more then one dog to a tie:

No!!! there are no adequate swiwels and chain is twisted. if tthe dog can jump the fence he will hang himself. He can also get the chain around his leg

 OK -...maybe.... read here:http://smithmountainlakemysterywriter.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

But best is if you do not do it. at all.

Prager,

Poor Paul15. He probably had no idea his fence jumping dog problem was going to be the poster child for strangled dogs, or just any ol' abused dog. His dog who jumped the fence did not have any of these horrific outcomes, nor did he navigate over such a type of fencing. Paul might even have a child who was reading over his shoulder on this very informative dog site.  By all means champion away with your macabre collection of garroted or hung up animals. Just spare me your obession, I don't need such horrifics to understand an agonized death.

I am done with posting with on this for now. I have a great pool party in progress for the kids. Even so, I won't be clicking on your name on this thread further, now that I know what it is you are wanting to do.

Beetree yes I am "obsessed" with warning people about how to protect their dogs and how ordinary fence or pool can kill their pooch.  You betcha. As far as children goes  when people  drive through the farm country they can see animals hanging on the fence now and then. That is reality.

I hope that Paul15's dog will have happy and loooooooong life.

Call me crazy but I'm venturing into this thread...

I can see that certain personalities are really never going to forgive and forget with each other and this thread is getting derailed by the back and forth...

OP:  the best post was your update about taking control about your dog's time outside.  That is the reality of our world these days.  I live in a crowded subdivision of suburban homes with very small yards.  Everyone has a dog, and not very well-trained ones at that.  I cannot even take the chance of opening my front door or the garage door without making sure my dog is leashed and under my control...I never know when one of my neighbors will be outside with their unleashed, poorly trained, and badly behaved dogs.  My yard is fenced by 5 ft fencing and subject to HOA cc&r's so I've always considered it irrelevant at containing him...my dog is only outside when I can watch him.

Re: Prager's graphic posts...I really don't think his intention is to delight in shocking us.  From reading Prager's posts for a long time now, I think he truly loves dogs.  Did I want to see the graphic photos? No, I didn't.  I would have preferred warnings and links.  But I think I understand where he is coming from.  I see so many dumb dog owners every day of my life who don't have a clue about so many things, most of all how to keep their dog safe and out of trouble.  After a while, it's enough to make any of us just plain mad!

Just today, I passed by my neighbor's house with my dog.  Her two little poodle mixes were barking like crazy and lunging at us through an open living room window covered by a screen. Well, they managed to push the screen right off the window, and one little dog tumbled out, falling about 4 feet to the ground.  He was dazed and confused for sure after the fall, but luckily seemed unharmed.  Then he ran away and I had to go chasing after him to bring him home.  I'm left shaking my head at the whole incident that could have been avoided but the neighbors think it's great to let the little dogs go crazy at the window.  Hope they will at least keep the window closed now because a screen is not enough to hold them in and keep them safe.

Although I have only just started posting here, I have always enjoyed the knowledge gained from reading this forum.  But we need the knowledgable people to keep posting from their years of experience with dogs and GSDs, and we need the newer people to keep posting their questions.  Too many knowledgable people have left and I have noticed the vacuum.  I would ask them to come back if I could.  I would ask Prager not to leave.  Blitzen, your knowledge has been a big help to me as you answered my posts about my itchy dog.  The current back and forth on the Training & Obedience section is very interesting!  We need the debates!  We all have much to learn from each other.  We just don't need people to get personal about those debates.

Zenit, there are very good and valid reasons why some aren't going to forgive and forget. I'm not getting into it, if you really want to know you can search the data base for a thread named "Look at these hips".
