All dogs react differently to corrections...Including Electric Stimulation...Just like an E-Collar...put it on your arm and activate it...You will see how HOT it is or is not...You must also be very "in-tune" with your dog/dogs to see a reaction from them when getting corrected by the E-Fence...
As others have said...I'd teach your dog/dogs to come back to you when they cross the fence-line...They cross it and you call them back...If necessary use a leash on your dog and when they cross the fence-line call them back...if they don't come back then give them a leash correction...You can then extend this to using a longer leash...Go from a 6' leash to a 15' one...to a 30' leash...then you can even drop the leash completely and continue to call them back...This type training doesn't happen over night...but doesn't take forever either...
I have never used an E-Fence and I don't like them because too many dogs will and can learn to just ignore it...So what good are they...Also I don't like having my dogs wear a collar all the time either...

Bob, your training advise per the radio fence is incorrect. Since you said you have no experience with it, then leave the training for it to people who do have experience with it. Not trying to be rude, but your advice is incorrect and will add to the already improper training fawn's dogs have already been subjected to.

Much better training session this morning.  Distress signs were much lower and ended within minutes of coming back and relaxing.   She also is getting the idea to turn around as soon as she hears the beep.

Good . Sounds like she is getting the hang of it.

Side note: I am not using this new fencing to now allow my dogs to "run loose" within the parameter all the time without supervision.

I do use an electric fence on the outdoor run; which works 98% of the time on the 2 dogs that run off. I am hoping with training and the fact that those 2 already understand an electic fence, this new fence will be the fail safe. If it does not, well, I am back to where I am today and the only other alternative is a solid metal fence around the run (I really do not want to do that as it is tacky looking) and activities are limited to on-leash (which sucks, as I would really like to start using Baron for more parameter security.)

As for the other 3, I am hoping for the additional fail safe that when I am outside working or if I let them out in the AM for restroom break, they are more hesitant to leave the boundary.

Fawn, after looking at page aftet page of this, i will simply add this little bit and you can do with it as you like.
Dogs that KNOW what the consequences are for screwing up, dont screw up because they dont want to deal with those consequences, if they are serious enough.
My dog is corrected and proofed on the electric collar...he KNOWS without a doubt what will happen if he takes off or ignores or whatever.
Yes, that takes serious training and time, but it works. In the end, all properly trained dogs work to avoid the correction, thats it.

Although I don't have experience with the E-Fence...I do have knowledge of how a dog thinks and what works and how to approach something new...I believe in teaching a dog slowly and show them what you want or expect...Maybe you don't have experiece with an E-Collar...but an E-Fence is nothing more then an E-Collar...So the training would be the same...and like I said you give the dog a chance to learn (without correction) and then once they understand what you want you can introduce them to a correction...

Agreed, I just got bad info/training from the installer.  I have now covered all of the spokes so that only the beep sounds as a warning.  I am also going to extend this foundation training to 2 weeks instead of the week.

We had a better day yesterday.  Still undoing the initial incorrect work.  The trust bond is very strong between Rose and I, so the undo is coming along very quickly.

Thank you all for your suggestions.   We trained today with zero signs of distress.  Rose also understands "do not go near the line"  If you hear the beep, turn around.

Exactly what we are wanting.  I am still going to continue with the extra week of training.   Everyone is doing well.
