Questions, re: expenses,  unanswered.Thinking

I was told by John Henkel that (I) "you don't know how to run a big World Trial"
yes he is correct. I do not. I expect many don't.
But this was in response and was deflecting questions regarding expenses , that I posed to John.
This whole thing is very distressing because BOTH the GSDCA and the GSDCA-WDA worked very hard
to make it a nice event.  But my completely deflected questions were:

Did you ever attend one of the Budget and Finance meetings re: the World Trials?
Why were entries accepted AFTER the close for the Trial, for teams that did not pay?
Why is Dan Yee suing the GSDCA for those entries then paid by him , for the teams that didn't send money?
Why didn't the teams pay WHEN THEY GOT THERE?  Why is Dan Yee suing the GSDCA for entry monies,
that a few of the teams did not pay?  Why not go after the TEAMS? Why not disallow entry onto the fields
to ensure he gets back his money , that he paid out of his own pocket?  But instead is trying to hold the GSDCA
accountable for bad faith on the part of some of the WUSV World Trial entrants?
How about NAME the teams that have not paid to date?  Collect the money from them?

Why after a CLEAR set of approved and NOT approved expenses were set forth by the GSDCA, like alcohol
and extraneous rental vehicles, did Dan Yee go ahead and incur those expenses anyway?
Did he consult the WDA Board?
Did he consult the GSDCA Board?
Was it a unilateral decision?

If it was KNOWN what would and woudl NOT be approved, then why did Dan Yee , and perhaps a few others?
decide to go ahead and charge these expenses, KNOWING they were not approved?

I get from John Henkel  , paraphasing "you don't understand what it takes and these are the various and sundry
reasons why it is necessary to have these UNAPPROVED items"  Paraphrasing , again.  I didn't ask for REASONS WHY.

I only asked were any of these expenditures approved by either the WDA Board , or the GSDCA Board??
I got deflection, reasons and "we had to have them"

No is no in any language and yet Dan Yee sees to repeatedly and maybe? unilaterally decide the rules don't apply
to him?
Then when the GSDCA still says no .he , who has broken good faith, stomps his feet and threatens suit agains the VERY club
that financed the World Trials.
You know , we have five kids and Mr Yee sounds like a classic bully.
and still simple questions go unanswered....I am just amazed.
Also I understand there is a big question about the tracking fields...hmmmmmmm but I will leave that
to someone else.

Fasano sounds like the Captain of the Titanic who is trying to explain that the Titanic sank because the rivets holding her together were below standard .. never mind that he gave the order for the Titanic to go full steam ahead at night through an iceberg field.  Don't blame the crew for shoveling the coal and keeping the ship on course  ..  the decisions that sank the financial results of the 2013 WUSV for the GSDCA were made in 2000 and no course corrections were made over a 12 year period to save the ship despite everyone knowing the financial risks and costs involved.

Sadly it is about egos and power when it should be about supporting members and the GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG.

by vk4gsd on 27 February 2014 - 06:02

when breeding and training dogs strives to be an "industry" all this endless BS is what you get.

by gsdstudent on 27 February 2014 - 12:02

The GSD brand must be supported. All interested partys should join local and national clubs and make an impact. If you think disorganized efforts will keep training bans and breed spec legislation away you are mistaken. There are people working at betterment of the breed and working sports. They need more help.

What has the WDA done in regards to battling the animal rights agenda?

by gsdstudent on 28 February 2014 - 12:02

the only important Abrv is GSD. Place your effort in the organization that you can have the most impact with. Your pick.

I attended the event and from a spectators perspective it appeared to run smoothly. Nice venue, plenty of parking, easy access from the highway. I don't think anyone can argue that 12 years is plenty of lead time to run an event. Even if you did not know how to there was ample time to visit and apprentice at other WUSV shows. Now you have a fall guy in Mr. Yee but it appears there was very little accomplished in staging this event prior to his involvement. Now that the show is over look at all the finger pointing. What was glaringly absent from the event was sponsors. No big name car dealers, Ford, Dodge, GMC. We all use trucks and vans for this sport. No large brand dog food vendors. I've been involved in many organizations that run events. Mandatory ticket sales. Each club has to sell/buy 10 tickets for the event. ATV to get teams to the tracking fields, I'm sure this was not the first time this was done. The ATV could have been rented, Many members have them. I'm sure this was not the first WUSV in the last 12 years that ran into this issue of getting teams to the fields. How did other countries handle it. Money should have been spent to send appointed members of the organizational committee to attend the planning of other WUSV events. Forensic accounting of financial expenditures is Monday morning quarter backing. Seems like money may have been spent loosey goosey and now you are holding peoples feet to the fire. There is a learning curve to everyhing. But there are too many blue prints out there. You can''t say you had no idea how much this stuff was going to cost.

Kyle,

There has been some information released recently that addressed just what the costs the WDA is seeking. It appears there's some soul searching going on within the WDA. From the January 2014 Treasurer's report that has been circulating here's the breakdown:
  • 3,000 for helpers expenses that tried out but not selected.
  • 7,000 for vehicles to transport to the tracking field, porta potties for the field parking lots and office expenses.
  • 1,000 Partial reimbursement for judges and staff meals.
  • 7,500 World team 2013 expenses for WDA team and captain.
  • 4,000 Universal Sieger Championship for the competitors.
  • 2,000 for the combined qualification trial.
As you can see there are items on the list that have nothing to do with the running of the event. If the GSDCA is told; "you don't know how to run a big World Trial", they may want to look into the helper tryout costs. This may have not been done right the first time and additional expense may have been incurred from multiple tryouts. Who should pay when it's your job and you don't do it right the first time?
