Look at the bright side. Now that the WDA has been granted WUSV member status and can host their own WUSV sanctioned events, they no longer need the GSDCA.

Actually the GSDCA president said that the GSDCA helped found the USCA and the WDA in his letter to the GSDCA membership so everything the GSDCA president wrote must have been the absolute truth ( I am a member of the GSDCA )??  The 2013 WUSV was not a WDA event .. it was a GSDCA event ( please read the original announcement of the 2013 WUSV ).  The WUSV was held in the USA to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the GSDCA and the GSDCA was the host not the WDA.  The WDA and Mr. Yee got saddled with all the work however but had to report back to the GSDCA for permission to do everything so how could that go wrong or slow down getting anything done??  So at the last minute always .. Mr.  Yee and the WDA had to burn the candle at both ends to get everything ready because the GSDCA really didn't care that much about getting things done for "their" event which is what the 2013 WUSV was.  The WDA pulled the WUSV off and did a good job as proclaimed by everyone but the GSDCA is now complaining that Mr. Yee used too much ammo in winning the war.  He could have split the bullets and saved on ammo had he just planned better and asked permission to do everything six months in advance as the GSDCA wanted.  When the indians are killing everyone on the wagon train ( no disrespect to Native Americans ) and burning down the fort everyone is happy to see the calvary come to the rescue.  However after the poor citizens are saved from scalping or death and sit safe and happy .. then when they get the bill for the ammo, horse feed, and food for the troopers spent for the operation they quibble over how much was spent in saving their sorry asses.  The GSDCA wanted to be the host of the 2013 WUSV and knew it was coming to them for several years well before Dan Yee was President of the WDA.  Yee and the WDA ran the event and got it done for them and now they want to squeal like a pig about what it cost .. priceless!!  It was not the WDA's event and it was not Yee's decision for the GSDCA to host the event in 2013 .. that was all the GSDCA and Yee just got caught in a situation where he had to make the event happen despite not being in charge or handling the check book.  After the event was successfully done by Yee and the WDA the GSDCA is complaining about what it costs .. if Yee had saved $100K and the event had been a horrible screw up would the GSDCA be happy or have taken responsibility for not allowing Yee to spend the money needed to make the event a success??  The GSDCA considers the GSDCA-WDA to be part of the GSDCA (also in the GSDCA president's letter) but they don't want to pay for the costs of the WUSV 2013 because the WDA did not get prior permission to spend the money necessary to make the event a success.  By the way the WDA has continuously ( the words of the WUSV president ) been a member of the WUSV just as long as has been the GSDCA and the USCA.

The words of the GSDCA President below ..

"BACKGROUND OF THE 2013 WUSV WORLD TRIALS
In approximately 2000, the GSDCA committed to host the 2013 WUSV World Trials without fully understanding the financial obligations associated with producing such an event."

In 2000 the GSDCA-WDA had no input into the decision by the GSDCA to host the 2013 WUSV other than as a WUSV member Club and was fully recognized as a member club and participant in the WUSV as an organization recognized by the GSDCA, USCA, and WUSV as such and fully participated in all obligations and benefits of WUSV membership.

The 2013 WUSV was a financial failure for a host of reasons that both could and could not be forseen in 2000.  The financial results were poor because there was not enough money to collect .. not because money was not collected.  Low attendance was clearly the cause of low income for the event and a a probable and forseeable result of having the WUSV in the USA because the sport of Schutzhund/IPO is not popular in the USA or Canada and the GSD is not the only breed involved in the sport.  Having the GSDCA host the 2013 WUSV in the USA made as much financial and logistical sense as having a NFL playoff game in France both for the participants and the fans.

1.  High cost and difficulty of transportation for both animals and humans from Europe to the USA.
2.  Heightened security and costs related to higher security concerns after the 9/11 and other security related events ( wars, bombings, etc.)
3.  European attendance and overall attendance was lower than normal if held at an European site and lower than expected because of increased travel costs plus security risks.
4.  World economic situation poorer than could be forseen which limited US attendence as well as foreign attendence.
5.  No press coverage by the US press as far as I could tell either before during or after the WUSV event.  I suspect European press coverage of the WUSV 2013 was better because it could not have been worse than the nothing the USA press gave it??

and most important

IPO is an answer looking for a question in the USA and N. America .. Germany alone has 20X the participation in IPO than has the USA and Canada.  The membership of the WUSV is overwhelmingly European ( 260, 000 members in total for the WUSV ) with Germany comprising 60,000 of the European WUSV membership.  Vendors and supporters of the WUSV had very little economic interest in the "games" being held in N. America when the "market" is so overwhelmingly European.  Nobody cares about IPO in the USA other than IPO participants.  Many IPO participants and organizations both in the USA and worldwide are not GSD owners or member clubs of the WUSV ( DVG, Mals, Rotties, Dobermans, and other breeds or clubs) so a GSD only WUSV IPO event in the USA was a non-starter for them as they couldn't have cared less further decreasing USA attendance and coverage by the USA press.

That last paragraph by bubba is very true, I believe.

Bubba,
Thank you for describing so forcefully the "separateness" of the GSDCA and the WDA.
Very convenient at this juncture.

And would you all like to know WHY there was no coverage???

It is my understanding that GSDCA owns the WDA  trademark.

I was describing the "oneness" of the WDA with the WUSV !!  The WDA has been a member of the WUSV as long as there has been a WUSV .. The USCA was started by the GSDCA according to the letter to the GSDCA membership from the current GSDCA president so for that their shame must know no limits but perhaps that is also factually suspect.  There were several factual errors in the GSDCA letter by the current president but the one area that was correct is that the GSDCA was the host of the 2013 WUSV from the year 2000 and the WDA was brought in some 10 years later to save their bacon because they could not run the event.  The costs of the 2013 WUSV event were large and the attendance was small so it lost money .. it would also have lost money had the event not been run by Yee and the WDA and probably more if the GSDCA had run it themselves.  I have not heard anyone say the 2013 WUSV event was not run on schedule and there apparently were no problems that affected the competitors or outcome of the event which is something the USCA seems to be unable to accomplish at their events.   I am pretty sure the GSDCA-WDA would not accept the WUSV event as a host because it knows the costs and work involved in hosting the WUSV event and further knows the event belongs in Europe where the vast majority of the fans, competitors and IPO dogs are located.  Plus when the event is in Europe the team USA dogs can visit their homelands and see the breeders who produced them .. a homecoming for team USA dogs and a chance for the team USA competitors to buy more dogs with which to compete.

Hi Bubba and Folks,
I was at the Joint Board meeting in 2012, when the WDA came "hat in hand" and "palms outstretched" begging for
money from the GSDCA for the World Trials.  Now we all know that it was not a great idea, to host it in the first place.
However, the WDA was given an enormous amount of money to do this.  They paid for how much themselves????
Anyone?  Nobody knows b/c Dan Yee has yet to send out an itemized  sheet of expense and income related to the Wrold Trials.
The WDA Prez and Board were SOOOOO nice, and smiley and glad handing at the board meeting that day.
As soon as the funds were okayed by the Parent Club , GSDCA ...the attitude changed, or maybe just reverted to
what it actually was all along .
This whole thing could very easily be laid to rest.  LET'S SEE AN ACCOUNTING BY THE WDA FOR ALL FUNDS,
INCOMING AND OUTGOING ON THEIR PART????  I am sure it would be interesting to say the least.
There is absollutely NO reason for those facts not to be provided....or is there?

The people who are accountable are the people who took responsibility for the 2013 WUSV event in 2000.  Being in charge of the running of an event and having the "host" deciding what is OK from the back seat is always going to result in delays ( the competitors list for example and the web site being up to date ) and conflict.  If the GSDCA didn't want to host the event they should have bailed or run it themselves.  It wasn't Yee's job to collect the money if it wasn't his job to decide how to spend it.  Back seat driving usually results in conflict, wrecks, delays or increased costs and that is what happened when the GSDCA told the GSDCA-WDA to drive but kept their foot on the brake and the gas pedal.  Yee's goal was to make the 2013 WUSV successful as an event not to save money or cut costs for the GSDCA.  If the GSDCA wanted to have the final say on every penny spent they should have driven and let the WDA sit in the back seat and give directions.  Anybody want to venture a guess if the French will spend less to host the 2014 WUSV??  I would say it will cost just as much or more but the income from the event will be two or three times what it was in the USA because almost all of Europe will be within a days drive or train ride of the event.  Boston was a good choice of location for the 2013 event as the Europeans would have balked at a return to Indianapolis or the midwest .. the proximity of Boston to the rest of the East Coast such as NY, etc. probably meant more Europeans came as they could roll the WUSV stay into a longer vacation if they could manage due to logistics and dogs.
