Good to hear Prince is doing well!!

Since I can call my dog off a bone, I never thought it was that big a deal to find out if I could take it from her.

~~...How do your dogs behave with bones?...Prince has never been aggressive with food or toys in the past,,Any suggestions what else to do with the bones?..and heart?....

Hubby says give him the bone and leave him alone!! He will be fine!.

Deanna,
Sorry, but your husband and even you, still really don't get it.  Every one of these little wins, like growling over a bone and Prince getting his way exasperates the situation.  All that happens each time is that Prince is inadvertently rewarded and he learns that aggression gets what he wants.  The fact that you let him around guests in your home amazes me, even muzzled.  He is not a dog that can be trusted with people.  That fact that he muzzled checked your friend is very telling.  Prince has learned that with members of your family, growling will suffice to reprimand you or any else for what he considers inappropriate behavior.  Prince rules the roost and is certainly Alpha in your home.  He is a spoiled dog with a sharp temperament and no control.  It is a very bad combination.  When your guest broke the rules, Prince went after him very aggressively, fortunately he was muzzled or your friend would have been bitten badly.   Since you and your husband feel their is no need to change or modify Prince's behavior, I suggest you change his name to "lawsuit."  It is much more fitting, although Prince is very fitting as well.

Please realize that Prince attacked your friend and his intention was to bite him.

This reminds me of the story of the flood and the guy waiting on the roof of his house praying for the Lord to save him.  As the water is rising a neighbor comes by in a row boat and says "Joe, come on get in the boat I'll take you dry land."  Joe answers, "you go, the Lord will save me."  later as the water is reaching the roof a Coast Guard Cutter comes by and says Hey, buddy grab the rope we'll save you!"  Joe, answers "No, the Lord will save me."  Joe tells the Coast Guard boat to leave.  The water becomes so high it covers the roof and Joe climbs up onto his chimney.  Still praying to God to come save him.  As it gets very dire and Joe can barely hang on; a Coast Guard Helicopter shows up.  The rescue swimmer yells to Joe, "Hey, grab the rope we're here to save you.  Come with us, we'll take you to land!"  Joe, replies " No, the lord will save me. I'm waiting for the Lord."   Well, the water continued to rise and Joe was washed away.  He woke up in Heaven and saw God.  Joe said, "Lord, I don't understand why didn't you save me?????"   The Lord replied, "I sent two boats and a Helicopter for you.  What else did you want me to do?"

Point of the bad joke is too illustrate how dangerous missing all of the signs can be.  So far, you have had two boats sent your way.  Don't wait for the helicopter.  Wink Smile

Jim, I am always delighted to hear from you..I do appreciate every bit of your advise,,I don't really like your post above I have to admit, but I respect it very much...,I guess I am confused as to why you think that I do not want to change or modify Princes behavior..I have been working toward that end for a long time; at least I thought I was,,,I realize I have made a couple more serious mistakes lately,,I have known for a long time that Prince is a liability,I take that very seriously which is why he is always muzzled around anyone outside the family..
I get the moral of your story, but I need it spelled out a little more clearly,,What are you actually suggesting that I do?..Throw Prince out of the helicopter,,or better yet jump out of it myself,,:(  kinda joking, but not..

BTW Bee,,never mind,,

No offense Ruger1, but I don't make the same mistakes you do. I have had dogs that bit people and every single one of them I could take any food out of their mouths, bones or not, even while they were eating. The trick is preventing issues. You are not finessed with that idea. I say this in a nice way.

"No offense Ruger1, but I don't make the same mistakes you do. ".........

Yah!!,,,for Bee!!!,,,Clown

You have
probably never had a dog anything close to the temperament of Princes,It's easy to judge,,jmo..I have had two other GSD that did not give me the challenges Prince does,,And this particular post is directed towards you not Jim or anyone else...

Oh you never met Silas. Unfortunately he died at just before 15 months. I would have had problems with him, like you. I had not found this site yet, I was making huge mistakes. Like you. He was all black, too. A rescue. All I can tell you about his lineage. But that prey drive was real. People tasted good.

And I know you know, it really is no party at all.
