Victor is priced very reasonable. I feed grain free and also the performance and all my dogs do great on it.

I also feed Victor and love the quality and price.  I get the High Pro formula for $35 for 40lbs.  My one dog with sensitive stomach does amazing on TOTW High Prairie, nothing else seems to work as well.  Another dog gets Nature's Domain Salmon.  All get chicken quarters or beef and bones daily, or every other day, to supplement.

I feed Victor and Nutrisource dog foods.

The Victor is grain inclusive.  I have a couple dogs that just were not doing well on grain free.  My old man is on Nutrisource grain free and does well on it.

One big thing I love about the Victor is that I can get in in #40 bags, and it's a good price. ($37.99/40 lbs vs $42.99/30 lbs for nutrisource)

Great and thank you again, I found the Victor brand in our local stores so that makes in very convenient.  Really don't like to order on line dog food especially in the summer due to heat and if it sits around in their truck for any length of time can go rancid very quick.  The price is right on the Victor also.  Nan

Not every food is right for every dog, that in mind I look at the results of how good the coat and weight of an animal is on and ask those people what they feed. If their dog looks underweight or dull, I would not most times try the food they use. I miss feeding raw as I did when I lived in a rural area where slaughter houses had fresh kills daily and it was an easy supply. Here where I am now, that just is not the best option.

Regarding Victor Dog Food:

I do worry when I read the second ingredient is sorghum, which really is just an ancient grass.

Same here GSDNewbie;  store bought meats mostly chicken; very little beef, fish is hard to get unless you want it from China/Thailand;  my guys don't do great on large pieces of Turkey;  pork is easy to get and cheap but I only use pork maybe once per week give or take, like to use pork necks though.

Here's my plan,  a good quality kibble in a small amount; add some ground raw of various types (Like K9 Kravings) added to kibble in small amounts daily.  Will have to see how puppy does, my adults have been on raw for 3 l/2 years but am currently rethinking that also.  Have not decided as of yet.  If I had not seen with my own two eyes the difference raw made in my past seniors I would not even give it a second thought as buying from grocery stores is a PITA;  plus I don't trust the quality not to have additives and crap in it.  So currently am rethinking the whole feeding program of all the guys.  Used to use some Honest Kitchen but the teeth went to shit and took a while to get them cleaned up again, even the younger guys teeth looked stained with tarter so that went out the window plus they would not stand behind their 10 box get one free.  PMO.

And as you probably already know you can plan on about $100.00 per dog per month;  minimum at least that is what mine is running right now.  BUT you cannot put a price on good health, etc.  So that said, we will see.  Thanks to everyone,  have a great holiday weekend,  Nan

Nan,

Why rethink the raw? If you dont want raw, you could always cook the meat. Still better than kibble imo.

Someone on another board mentioned Beaverdam from DE. Ive never heard of it has anyone else or fed it?

I'm thinking about trying Victor grain free since I can buy it at the same feed store where I get TOTW. My only concern is that it seems to be high in calories per cup compared to TOTW. My dog get a fair amount of exercise, but she was spayed in Feb so I'm concerned about keeping her on the slim side. Right now she gets a scant cup of TOTW plus 1/3 cup of green beans twice a day and about 1/2 cup of TOTW after 8 PM - she's one of those dogs that vomits the yellow foam if her stomach gets too empty. I'd hate to see her get much less to eat than that. She weighs about 78 lbs and is in good weight. Any problem with weight gain on dogs eating Victory? Thanks..............
