Ok I accept there are some honest Breeders out there but not all what you see is really what you get.We have seen and read it here on the data.I have seen great videos from puppies and there bitches but when I got there wow what happen the breeder told me well you know they change fast ja right what do you think I am stupid I am a breeder myself and that made them very uncomfortable. Not much to say i left.Again few of us do know what and how to but we have a lot of new commers and thats the ones there get in trouble because they do not know all what they have to look for in a GSD.And that is the beginning of??? Maxin.Ps.been on this side for a long time as an onlooker but now I am in.Bob O are you a holder and Breeder or just a adviser??wondering everyone seems to admirer you LOL

jletcher I agree and it does seem troublesome. I just hope over time the internet helps. I am looking at treadmills and in the past would have had to go look at them and read sales literature. Now I am researching on the internet and reading reviews. This will determine what I buy. Hope GSD people do the same. 4Pack is right in that sometimes/some people cannot travel to see the Sire/Dam and pups. Videos do help but I do agree nothing is as good as a visit to the kennel. That's what I like about Ebay, you get to review each persons rating from customers before you do business with them. These types of websites are a step in that direction. You take your time and communiciate enough you can find the best breeders to work with.

Lately I've heard some sad stories about problems in GSD's that PROBABLY could have been prevented for the most part by a little honesty on the part of breeders who imported certain dogs here to the US. Sometimes it takes a generation or so to realize that some dogs are not always as they are represented. It's just a sad state of affairs when money rules supreme. I know I sound like a broken record, but if GSD's puppies were selling for $250, adults for $500 I think there's a good chance there would be a lot fewer buttheads breeding them and the overall quality just might be a bit better. There would be less kennels farming out pg bitches and producing hundreds of litters. Dogs languishing in kennels with no daily stimulation and little human contact is not the way to raise this breed. They are not livestock. Read what 4pack has gone through with an import. I assume she is not a newbie and did her homework before she bought this bitch. Still she did not get what she expected. I don't mean to pick on you, 4pack, hope you don't mind my using you as an example. I don't know yet what effect the net will have on the overall welfare of the breed, the jury is still out as it's too early to tell. I think it could go either way - those who are breeding for profit could find more customers or buyers could become more sophisticated and learn the right questions to ask. My concern is when experienced breeders like some on this board continue to get screwed, what hope is there for the novice? JMO which isn't worth much in the big picture.

Blitzen I don't feel picked on. I told my story here for others to learn. I wasn't a newbie to the GSD but to the world of GSD business. I learned not to be affraid to ask any question. I also know what questions to ask from a breeder and what I expect from a breeder. If I don't get what I expect, I don't pay for the puppy in the end. You have to be willing to lose your deposit. This I have done because I didn't get the info I asked for from a breeder. I had to start my search over again but it was defiatly worth it because I have a VERY nice pup. It was worth the 8 more week wait.

I was just thinking about this topic the other day after seeing many breeders using forums to attract puppy buyers. They post cutsie photos of puppies and manage to get forum members to purchase their dogs.

LOL You got it! Good thing ebay bans selling dogs or it would really get out of hand.

Though without internet sales we would not have our Boa or Minka. We found both through adds here on data base.

Love the post. I am also someone that would not have the dogs I have today without the net. Like everything else buyers and sellers will always have to do their homework and for me the net has been very helpful. Made great contacts and even found some friends.
