One of my former bosses, a vet, offered at stud his imported GSD without any hip xrays and bred him to anyone with a bitch that even looked like a GSD. He'd just ask them if they ever noticed any lameness problems. Not all vets "get it" and not all vets give a hoot either.

Several of you touched on this that breeders/buyers need to have personal relationships which will help them make better choices. I have seen that from this board where many of you have made those relationships with people all over the world. Bob was correct in that bad breeders tend to fade away and people who buy problem GSD's will fade away as they get burned for alot of money and go on to the next breed.

And some of those who fade away due to getting burned might have had the potential to be outstanding dog owners and breeders. It does cut both ways, doesn't it?

True But to ever be a successful breeder you will make mistakes. You can't quit though if you want to succeed.Have to learn from mistakes.

No, my friend did not switch vets. The dog still has health issues and no training. She thought all pups come with worms! Calls occasionaly AND COMPLAINS HOW Dumb the dog is. I refused to sell her a pup. She lives on 15 acres, her dogs are untrained and have been hit by cars on several occasions. Like I said some people just can't be educated

the biggest problem i see is too many people buying titled dogs and becoming breeders. then they start breeding untitled dogs and tell you "but thier grand-parents were all titled" or "they come from german stock". the uneducated person is the one who suffers. how many people out there bought thier first GSD to do schutzhund, only to realize later it lacked what it takes? me too.

jletcher Those type people will never go away. But I hope the ability to research will effect anough people that long term it improves the overall quality. These type people always like you said have the "granddaughter" etc of a good GSD.. If we make the line better maybe they will get a better pup. Not to say some of these people don't have good dogs. Post is about how the internet sales will effect the future dogs.....

DesertRangers "Post is about how the internet sales will effect the future dogs....." it would seem that it would make it a lot easier to accomplish the things i mentioned. for every person who decides they want to breed there are 10 more wanting to sell them a dog/bitch to make a profit, and they dont care what happens to the animal they sold. Internet sales, well that just makes it a whole lot easier to do. how many complaints have we seen on this message board about people getting taken advantage of? Im willing to bet for every one you here about there are 10 more you dont. as posted before, get burned and get out. just to clearify, i have never bought a dog off the internet. i have contacted people from it, but not untill i have seen the sire or dam and seen the pup did i purchase. luck of the draw or common sense?

I have to admit it is tempting to explore the net.But I still say see the Bitch or Sire in person to evaluate.I know we are getting more use to shop over the net but with the GSDs I am still sceptical.I am traveling to see the pups from SG5 Zidan from NJ.to VA. just so that I can see the bitch in person before I commit myself. I need to get a pup who will in time upper my bitches or Sire's progeny. Can I see that on the internet nope.Only if you got contact to the source you can shop a GSD on line meaning a scout, like in baseball or foodball LOL..... If you have a good breeder who takes video and gets video from the progeny owners when they sell a pup, you sure can do allot. Chris Orkies does a good job of this and that is how I got interested in his breedings.
