wink aww, thank you :)  I really like the solid blacks, never had one, yet, but I really enjoy color diversity and I always enjoy seeing well structured dogs of of different colors.
Silbersee in particular I think has an amazing breeding program.

Yes, I understand what you meant, Sara  I doubt that we'll ever see a national or world sieger solid black dog ever, but maybe a universal sieger?    So sad to see such political backlash against colors that are perfectly standard acceptable.
I was so excited when Timo Berrekasten made it to vice world sieger (they said he would have been sieger if he wasn't sable.)

Because of silly political junk that occurs in shows, I no longer care very much about whats popular at the top.  I think that the universal siegers are the way to go.

Euro thanks for the links. Myself I really like Mirko Grafental and have added their site to my favorites. Hmmm might be something interesting to add to our lines. I think I would like to talk to them and maybe take a road trip down to see him in person.........

And yes Chris from Silbersee has beautiful nice dogs......................She had a black female I really liked--I think her name was Penny.

I too, as if noone knew, like the black dogs altho sables are still my fave. I also like the dark blk/tans when one parent is a black............... I guess the bottom line is I just like the darker pigmented and colored dogs.

Hi guys, I have been meaning to answer here but I very seldom sign in with my user name since you don't need it to read. A friend of mine told me about this thread and I skimmed over it wanting to reply but kind of forgot until today. First of, there are no black showlines. The reason is simple. In order to get black puppies both parents need to carry this gene (not just one like sables). Therefore, the beautiful blacks you see are from workinglines. Forget the Russian dogs and their supposedly dominant single gene. If that is the case, they received that one from a non-GSD. There has been a discussion on a German working dog board about it and the consensus is that there are ancestors who are not GSDs. Anyway, the sire of my homebred girl V-Uschi vom Silbersee is V-Nolan vom alten Wingertshaus. He is currently the best solid black dog you will find. This year, he placed V-63 in the best ring at the German Sieger Show which is an amazing success. He is not an accident but based on great genetics. His sire is V-Paska vom Salztalblick who has produced a great number of great structure. His mother is Xallie vom alten Wingertsblick, a female whose offspring just speak for themselves. She goes back to Buster vom Adelmannsfelder Land, one of the greatest blacks out there. His brother Bito was bi-colored and also a producer. All of my blacks (or workinglines for that matter) base on my foundation V-Chuckie vom Schloss Laer who has consistently produced nice conformation. She has Fax vom Tor zum Sauerland and Stadtfeld dogs in her pedigree. Combined with the Paska Salztalblick-line, I have had nice comoformation in my blacks (Onyx, Olympia, Uschi). My whole O-litter could have V-rated if titled. All five were nice, direct Paska-children. My U-litter as well, all three girls had nice structure, Paska-granddaughters out of Nolan. I am currently linebreeding on Buster Adelmannsfelder Land and really like what I am seeing. My recent litter out of Pike del Lupo Nero also has some nice structure along with super temperament and drives. I truly believe that you can produce something nice by studying pedigrees and observing traits.

Chris is absolutely right and very knowledgeable. Although I believe I've seen some American show shepherds that are solid black? I also had a showline that carried and produced solid black. Maybe Chris can look at his pedigree and let me know what she thinks about his production of solid black? I know I do see a few of the old German DSH lines that branched off into modern working lines, but they are pretty far back. He also had some American way far back on the mother line. Will be interesting to hear.

Back in 1976 I a bought a black/tan male Kestlebrae Marcus, here in Australia, he produce only 1 litter with 4 black and 4 black/tan puppies.
His great grandsire was Frie von der Gugge and I know that he was a black but most of his pedigree entered her doesn't have photos so their colour is unknown.

In the 70's & 80's we did have a small number of blacks in the show ring but non these days that I know of.

There are a decent number of solid black AmLine GSDs :)  Back in 07 or 08 a black bitch was Grand Victrix :)
