Corieone, the powdered goat's milk is out there, and it is a bit harder to find. If your local supermarket has condensed goat's milk, then they probably have the powdered version as well. I buy both the condensed goat's milk and the powdered version. When we have a litter I keep about one (1) case of the condensed milk at hand in the case it is a new dam and I don't know how much milk she can or will make. So far I only had to use it one (1) time for one (1) puppy, so I gradually eliminate my stock by mixing it with the puppy food as they are being weaned. The powder is handy and not as expensive as the condensed milk. You can mix it to normal strength or double strength depending on your needs. Most dogs have a lactose intolerance and do not do very well on cow's milk, but they can digest the goat's milk very well. Bob-O

I like Esbilac Powder milk replacer, for pups and mom. You can buy this in sizes from 12oz to 5lb. (Description: This essential, life saving formula closely matches mother's milk. In addition to nursing puppies, it is also recommended as a nutrient-rich milk supplement for pregnant and lactating females and adult dogs needing additional nutrition. Fortified with vitamins and minerals for proper organ and skeletal development. Economical powder formula lets you mix only as much as you need to use at one time. )

I agree with all of the opinions, but like Vom Fallsview, I have found puppy milk replacer to be an EXCELLENT way of getting the mom to produce milk. I have also read in several books, (and I know its too late for this, but as future reference) let her SOME of the placentas and after births, not all of them (depending on litter size) AND let the puppies nurse until she is delivering, and then pull them off her, and wait till she cleans the pup, then put them back on, their nursing incourages milk production, because of all of the hormones/phermones, just a suggestion from a breeder of 6 years, just might be something you want to try for next time maybe, GOOD LUCK, keep us updated! carrots are known to aid in the production of mothers milk..also red raspberry leaves,,..the carrots should be steamed and blended or raw and blended to be digested properly..they also improve the tan pigment making it redder..
