No you are right ace, I would recommend a working line for PP.  But I sort of figured he didnt really want a PP dog, more of a family guardian type of critter.  ( I know he or she said they wanted a PP but most people dont ACTUALLY want this kind of critter for families) Does that make sense?  I read it back and it seemed like kind of a doopy answer to your question, hopefully you understand waht I was trying to say.  Uggh the written word, it complicates things :)

Oh no we are in agreement.  :)
And I am right with you on what does the OP want with regards to PP work.  I am thinking more of an alert bark and for that I think a showline could certainly fit the bill for that.

Going to throw my 2 cents here for what it is worth. I always encourage any Shepherd owner to look into protection sports of any kind. Ultimately the helpers, decoys and trainers will be able to better pick out if the dog can or cannot. I am in no way a showline person however I would never write off any dog based on pedigree alone, I have seen even some BYB that were great dogs. Protection work training starts from the very begining not later in life, this pup needs to be built with the right foundation and protection work is only going to teach the dog discipline from the get go. Now it might not have it, and that is just the fact of the matter. That said we should be encouraging everyone that has the want to try to try and do the sport, these are working dogs and we owe it to them. Even if this pup does not have it they may learn what to look for and the next pup they get will.

Also not sure exactly what type of protection you want to try but here is a link that has all the USA clubs in your state. http://germanshepherddog.com/clubs/south_western.htm
