In 2008, five Michigan kennels were quarantined because of canine brucellosis:

It's still out there, just as distemper and leptospirosis are still in circulation; given the opportunity, the diseases will take advantage of it.

BC is ALWAYS a concern!
years ago, there was a major outbreak at some shows and many large kennels just about lost everything.  people get lax and stop testing for it, and before you know, you are hearing about outbreaks of it.

my opinion, always test, whether you are taking your bitch to an outside stud, or using your stud for an outside bitch.  in my area, the test alone cost just $35, small price to pay for your dogs health and breeding future.

and it can just take 1 dog at a large show to infect kennels from all over the country.

if you show or trial alot, it is also a good idea to test your dogs regulary, no telling where you might pick this up at.

Edit: Infact, I think it should be a requirement for show/trial entries to have a 30 day current BC test.
