I was just talking to Egidio , from Degli Achei...he sold Furbo to China as well....that should have been big bucks...he just made VA1 in China......Germany gonna have to change their stance on height, or the best dogs are going to start competing somewhere else...not to mention the politics..they mainly give the big ,high positions to big named kennels.....

How about they just stick to the standard and not change it.  our breed is not supposed to be a giant, but a med./large breed.   everyone spouts off about the standard  when someone breeds outside it, why is it ok though to change the standard to compensate for oversized dogs, just cause they are blk/red and cost alot of money?

Personally, i think it's rediculous to pay such an amount! I don't think "Germany" really gives anything on what anybody says about what he thinks are the "best dogs" - the best dogs still have to be healthy and mid sized otherwise they are not able to perform as working dogs. I think that those oversized heads and aweful dark red colours look horrible and wouldn't pay $50 for such a dog.

wasn't the most $$$ spent on a dog recently a tibetan mastiff which went for many hundreds of thousands?   believe he was sold to China too.

Ibrahim, the old standard ( 63-64 cm, 25-251/2 was changed in 2008 to 61 cm ) so now males are same size as females..dogs like Odin, Negus, Tino, Furbo , Nando, etc went to China to compete. Some of the best dogs are leaving to compete elsewhere ,which will affect their progeny availability in Germany, so instead of widening the lines, the opposite is happening. One of the best producers,Dux Della vallcuvia, has always produce big dogs, but just for an inch, to turn them away, is nonsense. Remember, the gsd will have transformations over the years, just like it has from the beginning, but dogs like the ones I mentioned before are producing top dogs, you just have to breed them to smaller females.

Jdiaz1791, I wonder where you got that information from. The shows I visited during this time were judging all males 60-65cm and females 55-60cm. I never heard of a size reduction of the males standard. Even the current SV site lists the current standard like that.

Elkoorr ist right - the SV standard for females was and still is 55-60 cm and for males 60-65 cm. 1 cm + or - is usually excepted.

Lasso was a very very shinny penny.

Thanks Robin. By any chance do you know a round about figure for those dogs? What do you think they would go for?
