Don Corleone

First, I'd hold off on the "legend" title.  Secondly,  It takes both.  A handler does not bring what is genetically in place, and a dog cannot cover up a shitty handlers mistakes.

Yes it takes a whole team to do and show well in Schutzhund. A good dog, handler, spotters, helpers etc. If the training is bad it doesn't mean the dog is any less of a dog because it was trained bad, it just doesn't look as good. I do believe environment plays a big part in the dogs upbringing but genetics will always be there. whether it is bought out correctly or not is up to the upbringing and training. There are a lot of dogs out there that are trained bad but you can see it's still a nice dog. The only reason why i would think people would not want Fero in the lines is because he is in ALOT of pedigrees but he is the Top 5 BSP Sires of all time thru 2007 (35 progeny)

Yes, nice dog but the Fero thing goes back several years to a lot of discussion about his lines and Mink's (and sometimes others) showing undue handler aggression.

I should add that not everyone agrees with this assessment...a lot of it probably goes back to GSD's not really being the appropriate dog for just anyone.

Yes the Mink, Lewis etc are not for everyone. My male has mink, lewis, crok. linebred on yoschy. I personally like them :)

I liked Steve1, commit...his first one. I  did not see it
at all as negative...Koos has been building formula GSD's
for over 25 years. And said many times , this is the kind
of dog I like....He started breeding because he did not find
what he was looking for.

If anybody has seen the dogs they used in the 40's 50's 60's
for border patrol, they would understand where this sharpness
of temperament comes from.

 Happy Thanks Giving to all

V....

Tiekerhook breeding program does not approve of the Czech lines or the DDR due to excessive nervousness in those dogs and nerve imbalance

At this stage of the game Koos does not need any more than he already has.

I liked Bodo Van Tiekerhook .....memba ...him..???

He is in Dusty and some other good dogs.

The dog that really stand out for DDr, Czech....

..............Falko von Haus Sindern

He was a very good dog..!!

Vikram,
This is where you show your extreme ignorance and lack of knowledge of true working GSD's.  we have had many disagreements on here in the past regarding your myopic views of working dogs.  You need to keep and open mind and understand that there are many excellent czech working dogs out there.  All the excellent dogs are not just from Koos.

Here's a perfect example and not just because he's my dog, it's what Koos said of him as well:

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/469183.html

Just one example of an excellent working GSD, who does real work (Narcotics and Patrol) and is an excellent sport dog who happens to be based on Czech breeding.  Koos mentioned he  would have this dog in his kennel, so I find your comment that koos doesn't approve of Czech dogs to be inaccurate and ill informed.

Koos is one of many breeders that still breeds great dogs, I like his dogs.  But, I am not naive enough to think he is the only one left that breeds working dogs.

Please keep in mind that some might say this about some of Koos' breeding's as well: excessive nervousness in those dogs and nerve imbalance.

FWIW,

Jim

Jim,

Very good commit,.....If I were new to the GSD.
I would focus my attention on two Mecca's.

One lies In Belgium and north Holland.(Koo's)

the other is in Germany....two big one's there.

The people I would like to see interviewed from Belgium and The Netherlands.
Are  Bart Bellon, Koos Hassing, and Ronny Van Den Berghe. They are in the
same neighborhood of Europe.....You could spend a life time just with these
3, and it would not have been wasted.

The other I think should mention.....for tracking especially is the DMC...(German Malinois club)

They have a superb tracking program that I would like to adopt over here.
