Missbeeb,

You have heard it before, probably ad nauseum, but it is the bottom-Line:  TEMPERAMENT!   That is what comes first, last and always for the WL.  Without a good temperament, it does not matter how high the drives, how strong the dog, or even how trainable (and I personally think that trainability requires good temperament anyway).   So, YES, a novice can handle a good working-line dog, high drives and all...IF the temperament is there, too.  If the temperament is poor, it does not matter how many times the trainer has gone to the WUSV Championship--he is not going anywhere with that dog, except to the emergency room.  The dog will eat him!

4-Pack,

The dog was German-bred, trained and titled and he did pretty well in the 2005 WUSV.  Laius v. Moorbeck competed as part of the Russian team.   He was, I believe, VA-2 in Canada that year and also competed in the Canadian Championship that year to qualify for the Russian team.

No, not impressive, as you or I would understand or use the term.  But, he did the work.  Interestingly, I recall that he scored a point higher in protection that a WL dog from this area, too.  He was solidly in the middle of the pack of the WUSV results that year, so he did, indeed, hold his own.

I don't know if there is any video of him anywhere.

The big "mystery" to me with Laius was why SL breeders did not use this dog in their breeding programs.  The only explanation I was ever given was" they moved to France."  This from SL breeders who shipped a bitch, or two, to Germany every month!!  You'd think with him going VA, and successfully competing at the WUSV, he'd have been in demand as a stud, huh?  Nope.

Mystere, your PM is what I envisioned and why I wanted to see video. Sorry I still can't reply to you via PM, as you have me blocked for whatever reason.

Your last paragraph is really sad, really goes to show SL breeders don't really give 2 shits for work ethic.

That was YOUR statement I was quoting LOL

You said you had to have experience...I say no you don't..I did it without experience..i have learn with him..Did I say he was a GREAT teacher!!

A great dog can teach you much more than you can ever teach a dog..IMO..

 4pack,

I don't know why you are blocked.  I didn't do it--why would I?

Yep, it is sad.  I have asked a few of the SL breeders why they did not use Laius.  The first words are France and the second are that they are breeding to Stud X "to improve the upper arm."  Mind you, one of these breeders has produced  poor-temperamented nerve-bags that are not even suiteable, IMO, for the pet homes where they end up.    The thrid reason given is that they could breed to his brother or half-borther that was in the US...NOT that they did.

Shhhhh don't tell anyone, but there are a few SL breeders who do have good dogs that DO work,  are breeding those dogs to other good dogs that DO work, and are producing <shock> dogs with strong potential.  Shhhhh Don't tell anyone!

For as many breeders who select their breeding dogs based on what wins in the ring, there are a few who put temperament and function first.

 DeesWolf,

You don't need to worry about the secret getting out, until the dogs start showing up on the trial fields.  Then, the cat will be out of the bag.

Deeswolf I see that most of your last litter dog's went to working homes? Congrat's you must be very proude. I am glad to see that some SL breeders got it right and understand that true beauty is in functionality of the dog. I wish you lot's of success with your breeding program.

These people who preach about all these show line dogs that can work. You have seriously got to be in fantasy land.

I have been on this board for over two years. I have seen one, I said one, video of someone here with a nice S/L dog. It was a bitch at that. That is it. So where, pray tell are all these outstanding working S/L dogs?

I know where they are........Fantasy land.

Well just when is Gipsi going to spit out some puppies? She's a fun SL to watch on the field, nothing flat or slow about her. Wish I could say that more often. Think about Jimmie Armanius 2000 bred to her and I might go showline!
