Mystere

I agree with Yellowrose-- counselling is going to be critical to recovery and adjustment.  None of us has any idea how such a traumatic injury  and loss of limb would affect us mentally and emothionally. I don't care how strong a person you are, these types of injuries often bring out, or lead to the development of issues that must be addressed.  We only think we know how we would handle something like this, but we don't really know, until it happens.

I have a friend who practices as a personal injury attorney.  Apparently, one of the things that is not at all uncommon is for people, particularly women, to develop  agoraphobia (a fear of leaving the house) after a traumatic injury.  It does not have to even be a particularly serous or dramatic injury; a fall resulting in a broken leg can trigger it.   So, again, counselling is going to be critical.  If insurance doesn't cover it, seek help at a community mental health cernter, even a support group led by a mental health professional.

Mystere, his mom works as a personal support worker, so she's familiar with the medical system here, and will know where to get help for him. He's also going to spend time in rehab, and I believe they do counselling there to teach coping skills, as well as physical rehab.

This is Canada, so a lot of this will be covered by the government. If not, I'm sure the community will pitch in. It's a small town, and very close-knit.
