jletcher18 : i use to have a video that showed training bird dogs to hold and retrieve using e-collars.  its an old tri tronics video that Dobbs did.  they used the table in it.   have to see what the date on that vid. was.

I've trained (and retrained) with Jim Dobbs extensively. He is the best trainer I've ever worked with. Actually, Jim and Brian Mowry used to work together for a number of years.

Here are lengthy discussions of table training of the "trained retrieve":

Check out this link for some excellent videos with Jim (and Phyllis) Dobbs and with Brian Mowry:

I just had a better idea than building my own retrieve table. I think I'll just load up the youngsters and head South to Florida for some one-on-one with a Master when the snow buries my training field. I like the fact that Steve's table design comes with a mug of cold beer.  :-D but can't figure out what the two ropes from the upright stancions are for... not that I am a good enough carpenter to build such a nice piece of work anyway.

Sorry my phone was out of reception range yesterday Steve. I'll give you a call later today.

I remember when Brian started working for the Dobb's. He turned into a very good trainer, used to come out and work with our little club once in awhile way back whenTHE MAN on the west coast as far as police dog training goes ?  No... not exactly... Brian was/is very good, but I think even he would agree that title rightly belongs to David Witmer, Witmer-Tyson) then and now.

Ok i do not have anything against table trainig.it is a tool like everything else  and has to be used properly.but to make sound like it is rocket science that is just stupid plain and simple. Also  if  it is such a great way yhen how come more and more people doing it.Can you show me some dogs that were trained under this method i want to see how they benefited from this program.thanks and have a nice one.

Dumb-bunny-me had to re-read the caption below the photo. That is one well-constructed table, probably out-live us all! It kind of reminds me of those stuffed-cow cutting horse training machines you can operate with a remote control. I don't think there's much chance I can build something so nice, even with the help of a carpenter and a metal fabricator, but I'm going to try this winter. Nice thing to do indoors in the basement during the snow months. I'm thinking steel legs, maybe folding, wide at the floor/base? Holes in stacions for collar height adjustment? Love the idea of the cable going beneath the table so the dog can be "helped" to the other end and back, but not confident in my ability to include that feature. (and budget constraints, of course) Probably going to be too heavy for me to move easily...

How high off the floor should the long table be please? Bear in mind I am only 5'3" tall, not very strong holding anything at/above elbow level. How tall are the stancions with the cable attached at the top?

MY table is going to have a cup holder. Ha ha ha.

Held,  or maybe it should be Held Back...

Gene England's credentials speak for themselves.

Only American who has competed at  Worlds last 3 decades & winning...& the man who 'invented' the dual purpose  K9 dog.

'Gene made the 1979 USA's World Team and with his dog, Dito v.d. Noriswand, Sch III, FH, competed in Denmark.  Gene made the U.S.A. World Team several times, also winning the 1982 North American Championship, the 1983 Schutzhund III Tournament and the 1984 & 1991 FH Championship & the 1990 World Qualifier. One of the highlights in his competition was finishing first in the International World Championship in Tengen, West Germany in 1992, competing against approximately 400 dogs from all over the world.

What does buying dogs have to do with the subject at hand?

Mock what you dont understand.  First the messenger, then the message. Typical.

Held...

What have you specifically attained with dogs.......You personally not people that live by you

I really don't think geography has anything to how well you train your dogs ... ..

There are quality trainers all over the world.

There are probably just as many wannabe's in europe as there are here...

Good day sir

Dave

PS does the light hurt your eyes when you pull your head out of your butt?

are there any dogs that i would know that were trained with this wonderful invention and with this method. like i said it is a tool and like any other tool has to be used properly.but dog training is not rocket science.mostly it is common sence.and if it is such a wonderful invention why is it not being promoted so more good trainers can benefit from it.why is not every one or most people learning and using it.how can u let a great invention go to waste like this.i just do not understand.is Debbie the only known trainer u could come up with.
