BRADY BEE, funky munky & blitzen, thank you all for your comments.

The puppy pictured is very well balanced 'in the flesh' and not over-exagerated in any way, it was only a quick snapshot really with only 2 people taking it.

I am based in Suffolk, a short distance in fact, from my good friend and owner of some super dogs, Lynn Camden, who has given me much help, advice and guidance over the years. She has been an advocate of mixing show and working lines since the early nineties and studies bloodlines in great depth, also she warned me of the 'bottle-neck'  that was being formed many years ago.

Perhaps, when considering any breeding, people should consider doing "co-efficients of inbreeding" of both parents and the of pedigree of the proposed litter.

Louise, how many breeders do you know that actually do this? I would be willing to guess the answer is 'not very many'!

Nowadays, there is all sorts of software (including some free or trial versions) for calculating Wright's co-efficient of inbreeding:

http://www.tenset.co.uk/   http://www.tenset.co.uk/fspeed/index.html   http://www.geocities.com/willowind_dals/pedigree.html   I'll bet that Oli could incorporate some of these programs right here on the PDB.

Outcrossing produces Hybrid vigour.Nice looking girl Vickie. Can you post a video of her movement?

Outcrossing is not necessarily a "good" thing.  Either outcrossing OR linebreeding can increase the frequency of deleterious alleles.  If you believe one approach has advantage over the other for the sake of itself, it's best you just breed the healthiest dogs you can find that can do the work, and disregard Wright's COI.

I was guessing Lea was through Uno or Metin vom Stadtfeld.

My linebred dog's conformation (ass over elbows) is just fine for me...

A outcross dog  is all around the better for it something the above poster will agrue of course. I did a study of last years top WUSV dogs and almost all were no common ancestors in five generations...the smaller the gene pool the more defects in a dogs DNA from chronice immune system disorders, nervy temperaments you name it will be there with close lline breeding. The common sire theory is disaster when it appears on both sides of a pedigree things will crop up. The death sentence of a dog no matter what breed is this type of breeding and it will take years of outcrossing to make our shepherds healthy again.

Funky Mokey,

Thank you for the compliment.  I am excited for this litter also.  I don't know how many I will let go though!

RainHaus,

Her movement is absolutely beautiful!  I will try to get some video this week for you.
