Rohan Reaction http://www.gsdca.org/GSDReviewed/rdogs/RohanReaction.html   produced a number of very good herding dogs in his progeny and grand progeny as well as  producing great beauty.  My friend Ann owned his daughter Pella who was a working ranch dog as were her sons. They can be seen here http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/5093/weiher.html.  Shobie the 2nd male shown was a sable tho it is difficult to tell from the picture.  A fantastic herding dog and as you can see great structure and movement. Ann often took her flock to graze the roadside and the small local airfield behind their house.  Shobie could be directed to do a go by by the smallest lift of Ann's shoulder.

I must say that I vote for Windwalker's definition. Couldn't be said better. Each and every GSD I have ever had has been the perfect one - each in their own way.  Even little Nemo. He may not meet the breed standard in appearance but you could not ask for better character and temperament and great working drives.

I find the VA dogs of today clunky and often coarse in the head. Who introduced the mastiff into the show lines?  I also hate the halloween orange they somehow introduced in to the breed. Where did THAT come from. Working ability - the April sieger videos say it all.  When I see a picture of a dog that I like structurally it is almost always a high SG or V dog. Rarely is it one of the VA's.   Here are some of the dogs that I find structurally attactive.  A VA dog from 1993 Shanto's Xano http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/394.html    Sherry Kirschental http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/474131.html   Racoon's Daucus and littermates http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/385839.html a tiny tad long for my personal taste, I like them cobby but impressive sibling depth in titles, normal hips and elbow and Sg and V structure.  Plus I love his sire Troll Milinda and his brother Task and many of they dogs they have they have produced with body AND mind. A number of the Salztalblick dogs including  Paska and Minox.

Plus my favorite dog of all time. Not particularly my cup of tea in structure but I had several generations that were linebred on him. Sound Sound dogs with good work ethics, very civil dogs with great discrimination and a wonderful natural wonderful herding ability. I personally beleive the herding that comes down thru Quanto and Lasso comes from this dog. Dble Sgr VA Volker vom Zollgrenzschutz Haus SchH3 Kkl 1 http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/260.html . Interestingly I had forgotten what his koer says - it mirrors exactly what I had in his descendants. See http://www.gsdca.org/GSDReviewed/vdogs/VolkerZ.html

if you want a perfect dog look to any of mine, as i consider all of them to be  perfect.   anything outside of that and you are just wasting your time.

i have always had and will always have the best dogs.

no need to argue about it, just except it as fact and move on.

Also  to give the girls equal time V47 Fritzi vom Sandstein http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/26239.html ( I tend to like the Zamb body type which harkens back to Lasso Di val Sol -Who I liked for the herding and work ethic he carried). Her grand daughterV(LGZ) Obirah vom Sandstein http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/405388.html  who is litter mate to the very talented Olesko http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/447368.html

I have liked many of the vom gelben Rühl  dogs in part because the breeder's philosophy is a V on both ends and his brood bitches are SchH3. Linebred on Blue Scipio and his relatives.  V Enschi vom gelben Rühl  Schh3, IP3     http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/78654.html  This is a breeder that has done some very interesting breeding over the decades carefully blending show and work lines.

I have also like many of the Artlett and Huhnegrab dogs such  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/6196.html.   and  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/505600.html

In addition to my own personal dogs, a personal favorite of mine was my friend Julia's bitch Cora. See http://www.allk-9.com/sontausen/cora.htm   and  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/450787.html. Cora structurally was very correct and very beautiful. She competed very successfully in the working world. Was a great producer - you can still see her influence today in her great grandpups and she was a true pack leader who ruled with quiet dignity.  Not only correct in structure she had the true GSD temperament and character. -    Plus she had an unerring zoning ability for the tinee tiniest crumb of a cookie that might have remained on your person :).

My personal opinion is we have got the structure thing down. There are many many structurally beautiful dogs available to draw on.  I think we need to focus on correct working ability (NB the working side of the GSD world has its own issues not only needing better structure but needing to recognize that over the top crazy dogs are NOT good working dogs) and better health. What can help with both of these is for all of us to get out of our own little box of Am/Ger/Show/Working/DDR/Czech/white/Black/sable/Coat etc etc because each individual group is breeding itself into a black hole of a genetic bottleneck. JMHO
