Silbersee

No. A beautiful dog should not be bred, if the temperament is bad. A great working dog should not be bred, if the structure is faulty. A long stock coat or long coat should not be bred. A dysplastic dog should not be bred. And and and Chris

Newbie? you up to no good?.lol.

by Charlie Ivory on 19 November 2004 - 01:11

For crying out loud Brittany, you claim to be such a German Shepherd person and then you come up with a stupid question like that.........What the hell is wrong with you anyway? Missed a couple days of meds or something? The dog has an very apparent disqualifying fault. Sure the correct answer is go ahead and breed it, it can only better the breed as a whole.......And you have the balls to bring up Special Olympics? and belittle other people? If nothing else, your something to laugh about........ I would not buy a pack of chewing gum from you

Hi Charlie who me? naw Im a sweetheart!! Are you coming to dinner? Figured was too long a drive in probable snow for you. Will have to send you some newer pics of my gal shes lookin good! She has also kicked into high gear with her drive. I just cant abide breeding for nothing more than cash and not furthering the breed. Add to that breeding castoffs that should have been pets makes it worse. Then even more criminal allowing folks under that to breed the pet pups they buy. It just snowballs down the hill ending up in poor dogs with medical troubles and bad homes or euthanasia. But you see that every day you know what I'm saying huh? I have always gone by the rule that if you want a purebred get the best if you can't do that get a mix then at least you have a chance of good health that you wont find in purbreds being bred by folks who dont care what male and female lines they are putting together to strengthen not weaken the breed. They should be allowed to fully mature in structure before bred so that the puppies dont take too much out of them too. Lastly they should not be placed in the hands of ignorant pet owners that go "omg I have akc papers im going to breed it and make money lets put an add in the paper" I also find it rehensible that they are being used as a cash crop like a herd of slaughter animals to suplement ss income. To further the breed yes pups need be bred and sold that is a fact that cant be helped but most these pups are placed as best they can and they are improving the breed with the selected pairings not just whatever equipment can get the job done every heat as soon as they can concieve and carry! Puppies are not being soley created for just to sell for whoever to wherever with no regards for what the parents may offer to the genetic pool. Im done last i will say on it its a waste of time to try opening the eyes of those who only see green who will try to justify what they do none say they dont love dogs not saying they dont have good dogs im saying why and how its being done is wrong in my book. They are the beginning link to a bad chain of events in the breed.

GSDNewbie, And not every dog has to be bred. There are so many good dogs and puppies out there already. Why breed mediocrity to mediocrity to attain at the best mediocrity. I have seen gorgeous LCs, but they should not be bred. They get away with it in the US because the pups are all AKC registered. In Germany the pups would be without papers because the dog would have never had a breed survey to begin with. But the average person buying a pup does not know this. Charlie, unfortunately can't come. And it has nothing to do with being afraid of us! Ha! Stay well, Sunny

ty Sunny in my tangent i went off thread lol some that fight for breeding lcs are only in it because they have one and they want the opinion changed to console themselves about wanting to breed them. awwwww Charlie cant be afraid of lil ol us and dang we have showline dogs so we know hes not afraid of them either? Must be the snow yep has to be that white stuff lol!!!

by Charlie Ivory on 20 November 2004 - 09:11

Well, snow could be a factor..lol. I hate it more and more every year.......I do want to get out PA way, I went to a class (bloodhound) a few years ago and on the way home from MD I stopped in some Amish shop, they had nothing but leather goods and wool blankets, I bougt a few of them and wish I had bought more, best blankets we have ever had.Just not sure If I can remember where the place was/is.

Yes, diego, by 5 weeks you should have a pretty good idea. I actually had a seasoned breeder show me a couple of years ago, a trait that he had noted was consistent in every coat he has had in over 25 years and that trait is present at birth. I was skeptical but have since picked the coats out of every one of his litters with 100% accuracy and before their eyes were open. Unfortunately, he swore me to secrecy...I'm not sure why.
