Sue, when I get a request to advertise, either by phone, in person, or more usually now by email, I simply think about the publication which the advert will be in, its likely circulation, its retention potential (like the URMA BOOK & BC Mag.) and the pages available, and the price. I do NOT consider who else has been asked, they can make their own minds up. I did not have any reason to examine in anyway the whole list of email addresses that may or may not have headed the email from Lin. I do know that I had some discussion with Lin at a show last year, probably Essex GSD CH. Show, along with several other breeders; one I remember was Linda Barclay. I offered support, indeed I promised support. So when I received an email for advertisements I gave my full support. I am or should be fairy well known for my advertising, I have spent a small fortune with the BC Magazine over the years, and I support the League Magazine, and others. I do not consider myself elite, I leave that to others, and it appears to be a title readily used by some in our breed. I despise elitism of any kind, and I would ask you and everyone else to refrain from using such a description so casually and so inappropriately.
Regarding DEMOCRACY under the following definition,
"equality of rights in society, group, etc" you may have a point.
The availability of advertising space in this exciting new book should have been equally available to all, using a system of notification which was NOT selective. Almost impossible to achieve, because even if it was advertised in the BC Magazine, non-subscribers do not have equal opportunity, with subscribers. That as maybe, I am willing to withdraw my reserved advertising pages in this NEW book venture and take my chances when it is advertised again. With my website I have probably the least need to advertise anyway. Sue I have learned to know your heart is in the right place, I thought you had also learned something about me. It appears we have had a tiff, I hope we can put this behind us.

I think most people on this thread have a very strong suspicion who Zac is.

Dave , you need not give up your advertising space for me, I dont need it, I wont be advertising. My need and reason to advertise is equal to my desire to attend the 2 Day show, absolute zero.

Sue

Heather, after Lin came in and expressed how particulary I had hurt her you came back in to post the following -

"Well, to the negative minority.  I really hope you are happy now!  No one should be bullied in this way and made to feel that they have to come on here and defend themselves to you!  Some have questioned Lin's integrity and believe me when you have some and someone questions it, it is not a nice feeling.  Lin has bagfuls of this particular quality and this is the sole reason why she has refused to try and make money of people through her photography, it's just a pity some didn't realise this sooner and just saw fit to criticise".

I noticed you were careful not to address it to anyone imparticular but since you had already replied seperately to Zac and Pencil it didnt take a University Degree to work out who was left to fill your list of negative minority. In your next post you deny that by inuendo any of what you said was refering to me, OK I believe you ! !

Hi David and everyone else on this thread who seem to think I am this person Zac. I am NOT Zac, but as you have now personalised this I am only going to comment on 2 points here:-   Firstly, anyone who really knows me knows that I do not require to use false names to put my point over. If I had anything to say on this Database it would be said using my real name as I am doing now.

Secondly, if Sue and Mo have not received their Schedules then I am happy to send another set out to them tomorrow, there is no problem here, but I can assure both of you that they were posted last Tuesday the 22nd of April along with all the others. I actually had my son check that your (Sue’s) address was correct before it went to the PO.

Can I also say that perhaps Zac (male or female) may be rather insulted that he or she has been compared to me, my being a middle aged, overweight, unfit, retired Medical Secretary and if Zac is a male he may be more than insulted?   Aileen Mathieson

Crikey, Blimey.

It took a while to read through all that lot!

I would like to share a couple of thoughts...

Firstly - and most obviously - IT MUST SURELY BE UP TO THE OWNER OF A DOG TO CHOSE TO ALLOW IT TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED BY ANY INDIVIDUAL - OR NOT as the case may be.  I have taken many photos inside and outside the ring, and like to think I am aware of when it is a poor, good or very good picture, or perhaps when it captures a moment just right - take for example Sue B's females 3rd CC, I know she appreciated those podium pictures. However - it is always ultimately the decision of the owner whether it is made public! I am not fully in agreement with publishing all photos on a website from any given show, particularly at unconventional angles.

The 'book' which is being discussed - I have already expressed our support of - indeed I spoke to Wendy at Arden Grange previously about a similar idea.  however, we give our support in the same way that we support the BC Yearbook each year, and the mag, etc.  If the exhibitors dont support them they wont exist as a record of the breed for future years.  I purchase Urmas book each year, the BC yearbook, and subscribe to the BC mag, the SV mag and the VVDH mag.  Theres nothing more interesting than a bumper issue full of snaps and kennel adverts. I have often referred back to old league yearbooks and old magazines to find details of certain dogs, or to remember how a past dog looked in its prime.

My only concern for 'the book' was the exclusive use of Fardogart pictures.  Not anything against them in particular... but, in a hardback keepsake item such as is being suggested, I for one would like the best picture of my dog AS I SEE IT used.  Not that chosen by the 'editor'

I am being devils advocate here as I have little intention of showing at the Sieger Event this year - but that is how I see the project.  In order for the book to be a success it must contain the very best pictures available.  Take those who have paid  URMA on his visits.  Would these people not prefer their 50 euro professional print used?

Lin - I wouldnt get disheartened, but Linda B is right - a thick skin is needed for this game.  I should think most exhibitors have experienced heartache through the venom of others at some point.  The problem quite often, is success.  Too often if you have a good dog, many people turn against you... I think perhaps the same is true of your photography.  If you are any good at all, someone has to find a way of putting you down.  Those who benefit however, will always be allies.

Personally - I would rather be sent pictures from several sources, thereby increasing the chance of getting 'the' picture.

Finally - shouldnt we just get off this thread and get back to the old way of doing things..... if someone manages a good picture of your dog - great! but if they dont, you spend two days in a field with a few friends in order to get one for yourself! lol

Hi Jo , thanks for your contribution ,,Its really appreciated and I agree whole heartedly with you on many things,, Infact re the publication it was already discussed with many that the best photos would/should  be used in the book .. Indeed its something we have been trying to find out about with regards copyright .. As many know URMAs book is not exclusively URMA either ..Although I know its different persae due to quality of his photos ..

Re this publication...What I can say is that the plan with regard the British Sieger was to have every dog entered photographed  and in the publication  with a 3 generation pedigree etc.. In order to try and get photos of each dog ,it was planned  to have a  seperate area earmarked with in the grounds to have photos taken at the owners leisure over the 2 days of events when handlers etc were available .There was to be no rush after classes to try and optimise the potential for good photographs,Indeed I would not have been photogrpahing any classes at all but concentrating on trying to achieve good stances of all dogs in an area with no busy backgorund just grass etc and no time restraints.. Of course it goes without questionthat if any of or all of the owners had been unhappy with the images any photo would have been accepted . This was discussed way back as early as January.

Again I can answer anyones queries if they just ask me .. But not on a forum where mud is slung first .. My email is fardogart@btinternet.com ..if anyone has queries PLEASE email....

I am genuinelly trying to get something off the ground in the Uk .. . It has taken months of research to get where we are now and lots of input from many individuals but everytime we get a little further on we meet another negative  hurdle and this is before the events concerned have eventaken place..

What i can also say is that  one of the reasons  the publication was to proceed so inexpensively year was  to make it accessable to all pockets, to allow everyone the chance to purchase one if they wished , Thus see the quality and be reassured.. This would then stop doubters or worriers and hopefully give a solid platform for years to come..

This is not about me. Its about a publication that is missing in our country ,..It wasn't meant as a competitor to any other UK publication but as a compliment to any exsisting..

Why cant people just give it and me a break and be positive for a change without signing the death warrant of a project before it is even born!

Jo you are sooooooooooo right my skin is already 2 inches if not 2 feet thicker than it was 2 days ago , maybe a good thing  your right although personally I would rather i didn't need that and could turn my back without fear of attack..But thats  me being idealistic again!

Jo seperate to all this , I hope to see you soon in the Uk for a chin wag .

I couldnt agree with you more Jo. What particularly concerns me is those of us who would like that ultimate shot of our dog in the ring, with the judge, on the podium ( if we're lucky enough), at the moment the trophy is handed over etc & etc, are not going to be allowed this shot and there is little chance anyone else might have caught it unless they have a very large lens.

Part of the show enjoyment for me is the rush and hussle to get these shots as they are happening once judging is finished. Its just not fair that one individual should be allowed that clear shot for comercial gain, which may not even be to my liking!. Commercial gain doesnt just have to be about money. In this case it sounds like it might even be securing a future business venture for the snapper!

If it had not been for all the controversy over this book, we might still have the opportunity to get these photos. We already know we're not getting them at the 2 day show so what next? the Sieger also? and all because a book deal has been struck. Its not fair and it stinks.

Were exhibitors even consulted? NO!

Zac
