Keith: "why do you continue to support the organization by registering your dogs with them rather than simply registering with the UScA?"

Because the SV mandated it,  as the FCI-recognized registry, for the  USA/SV dual registry, that's why.  Regular Smile

David,
You do not have to retain your GSDCA membership.
You can apply for SV membership and that is all you need to show your dogs at UScA.
I know it is a little more expensive, but it is a different option available.

"Limits on our choices are everywhere..."

Uh, we could easily set up as many straw-man arguments providing examples that support choice.

Relax; I'm just playing the devil's advocate.  This entire conversation about the JA might be moot long before anyone expects.  I, for one, have serious reservations about the long-term viability of the WDA if they continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

What is the benefit for a member or a non-member to register his/her dog with UScA?
It is completely worthless piece of paper.
And why UScA will allow non-members to sign up dogs with their registry?

Oh  What  a tangled web we weave.........lol...

Some of the parables used aren't really comparing apples with apples.  First off that speed limit , stop sign, yield sign or whatever is a law established as a safety measure. Regardless of whether the restaurant I'm in serves Pepsi or Coke if I go to decide to go to another that serves something different I don't have to worry whether that establishment will allow me back in or not...they want my business. Those primaries only get the candidate on the ballot...come election day I can vote for whomever.  While I do not attend Mosque or Temple the Vatican is not going to excommunicate me from the Catholic church if I do decide to visit once or 20 times. End of the day will all believe in God.  Comparing belonging to competing dog organizations to treason is more than a bit farfetched wouldn't you say?

It's not a question of what WDA has done for non-GSD owners. I can't recall a single thing I've gotten through the USCA that they just *gave* me. Everything from membership to helper book to score book certification I paid for with US currency. The one thing WDA hasn't done for me is dictate where I can and cannot spend my membership money.

And that is great!
If you and the others are happy with the WDA, stick with them.
You and everyone else have a choice. Be a member of UScA and abide by the bylaws as voted on, or, be a a member of the WDA and be happy with them.
It's that simple.
Here's a thought. Maybe if those of you who continually want to whine about the UScA were to put half of that effort in to making the organization you are happy with (the WDA) better then you wouldn't have to worry about what UScA does or doesn't do for you.

As for the references, I believe Mystere was only pointing out that in the U.S. sometimes you have choices even when laws are written, as in the speed limit and your choice to abide by that law or not, and then in other instances in life where there is no law or rule, like wanting a Pepsi in an establishment that only serves Coke products,  you have no choice if you want to drink a cola.
Your Catholic church example doesn't make sense here either. If you are a member of the Catholic church and you decide to join a mosque or temple you have renounced your membership in the Catholic church.
(UScA = Catholic church and mosque = WDA. Another excellent reason not join the WDA. Wink Smile)

It's not a question of whether I'm happy or not with the WDA. I'm not a member nor have I ever been a member. Now I do belong to a WDA club but because of the JA I cannot join the WDA so therefore I cannot be listed on the club roster nor do trial helper work or act as trial secretary for my own club.

First off my dog is being neutered on Dec. 4th. I have no intention of trying to figure any of this out. I will say that I got a lot of support before my decision by the people of Quinnebaug club, although they did not what to take on new members, they did offer me to share training with their group.
They are also very open to train with what I think is a WDA club in Mansfield and hold their trials at the WDA club. Maybe everyone should consider working together for the best we all hope to become.
That being said, I would hope to wake up tomorrow and find out that people really interested in promoting the German Shepherd Dog can get past their personal problems and work together.
