to add to your solution:  Vet will not sign off on a health certificate on this puppy, he is in bad shape. The breeder has been made aware of this,  Ortho Specialist has advised to have this dog put down.    The money we have spent on this pup so far is what I see as a responsible owner plus my puppy has VPI insurance up to 14K, so monies for what I have paid is not an issue here.  getting a pup that this breeder knew had problems before she sent is!

Von ERzengel Puppy:  I know what you are going through is heartbreaking, especially on the heels of having to put your older dog down not so long ago.  I am sure you understand even the best breeder in the whole world can't guarantee a puppy will be free from genetic defect.  You said earlier the breeder refused to refund or replace the pup.  We here on the forum wee not privy to what happened in the past between the two of you, however; the breeder has come on this public forum & stated they are willing & able to take the pup back (at their own expense & refund your money.  Perhaps now, the two of you will be able to move forward, this really seems to be a fair & equitable offer on the part of the breeder.

Why won't the vet sign a health certificate for a 2hr flight?  Nothing you have mentioned to date would indicate a reason this pup can't fly.  I think DR&FNO is right, also  it's not clear what you want the breeder to do.

sueincc,

You say: " I am sure you understand even the best breeder in the whole world can't guarantee a puppy will be free from genetic defect."

You're right, however this breeder knew (I actually hope she did her homework on the pedigree!!!)  that her bitch, Caliber zet Eurosportu had very high risk of producing puppies (heck her 2 full siblings have OFA FAIR hips) with HD, because the line breeding of 4 - 3 Ben z Bolfu has HD. This is no accident.

Even the best breeders wouldn't dare pull a stunt like this.. I call this Breeder's suicide ;)

This is the quickest way ro ruin a good reputation :)

I meant to say " (TO) ruin a good reputation"  :)

Fela z Lipin has 2/2 hips from Czech, Galant has "b" from Slovakia. Calibre is 3-2 on Grim. Ben z Bolfu has 2/0 hips and very bad elbows. There is Klara in the back grouns who was 2/0 and her lines are known for bad hips.

For pete sake, why not just refund the pruchase price of this dog and allow them to keep him assuming there is vet documentation that upholds this claimed state of poor health.  I would normally require that the dog were neutered, but I don't think I'd want to see him put under anesthesia. Why weren't some of these health issues identified prior to the dog's being sold?

I don't understand why any breeder would require the return of a dog prior to honoring a contract.  It's cruel and petshop tactics. I certainly would never agree to those terms myself. Once a dog sleeps overnight at my house, it stays there forever.  I'll bet I'm not the only person here who feels that way either. Not saying this is true in this situations, but I have personal knowledge of breeders who have outright told the dog buyer that they will take the dog back and it will be PTS. Odds are most are not going to want to part with a dog they've had for a few days let alone months. Seems pretty safe to guarantee everything under the sun if the faulty dog must be returned to the breeder before restitution is made. How many pet buyer do any of you know who would do that and would they be the sort who you would want to have another dog you bred anyway?  Having a sickly pup is enough punishment, requring the dog be returned is over the top.

Gawd, just give them their damned money back, let them keep the puppy , be done with it and move on. Maybe you have already offered them this alternative?

<<VonErzengel puppy with major defects>>

Return the puppy, since Malinda Julien offered on a public board to refund you. What do you have to loose? You are planning to put this poor dog down anyway! Does it really matter who euthanizes this poor creature?

Bottom line is this litter Fela/Galant should have been NEVER bred in the first place. But that is Eurosports problem.

<<Malinda Julien>>

With all do respect, you have been a breeder for quite some time and you knew there was a chance of this happening. I am a breeder/ trainer myself and would NEVER take the chance with a bitch like Caliber period. Even if the previous litters turned out o.k., that doesnt mean it won't catch up with genetics eventually.

Thanks for being impartial and posting the facts!

Huh? If he were my dog you're damned right it would matter who euthasizes him, I would want to be there holding him close to me when he took his final breath  petting him and assuring him he was special.  Hasn't he already been through enough, does he really deserve to be stressed more by shipping him to a stranger to be PTS?

Our vet will not sign a health certificate she is stating this puppy will not make the flight.  The flights to dallas from SJC is not direct and has a lay over.  The total time would be 7 hours.  Also the price to send back is 362.  The breeder did not offier COD or to pay for this.  Our thinking was we are not putting more money out on this puppy to send him, have him pass away on flight and then have this horrible breeder say too bad no refund .  Since he needs to be put down we would rather be here with him, hold him and move on with this process. Once this had occurred we will send the paperwork to this breeder. We are trying to do what is best for this puppy and not put him through any more than has to be.  The whole point that I am trying to get across is for her to not breed these 2 again, even if this is mute.  I feel I have to stand up for this puppy and make a statement.

If someone could send me info on how to post the scanned medical documents and x ray I would love to do this so that those with doubts could see what it is that I am dealing with.
