someoen correct me but isnt benny mostly german showline with maybe one or 2 american showlines? You will get reactive dogs like him in every line no matter what it is not a big deal he is just not going to be a therapy dog sorry. Many gsds are wierd around strangers might get a bit reactive depending how someone approaches them always let your dog go to the person and not the person to your dog. I just found that case works out better with any dog. JMHO Tell them to call your dog over and let him sniff them then pet. But i would not make a dog like this a therapy dog because you are going to scare people when he does bark at them.

As for Benny's owner and wanting a less reactive dog... IMO you could be fine going with a German working line or German show line dog in general. But there are a lot of differences and variations within those lines. Look at the parents, grandparents, siblings, and other close relatives. Find a breeder who has dogs that you like, find a litter where the relatives are more stable, strong nerves, less reactive. You can always get a "fluke", but if you stack the odds in your favor, you will be more likely to get a dog like you want.
This is one of the reasons I think dogs should have a working title before breeding. By putting the breeding dogs through the work of training and trialing, you are going to get a better idea of the dogs nerve structure, what he can and cannot handle, how he works under stress, you are going to see a lot more than if you didnt do all of this with your dog. IMO it gives breeders more information and knowledge where they can then make better breeding decisions.
Look for a breeder who has dogs you like, who is honest and works their dogs. Explain what you want, what you are looking for and see if they feel they may have a puppy that will be suitable for you and your goals.
JMO Of course,
Valerie

2 different German males took winners dog for majors under Goldfarb and Gleason at the VA specialty shows held over the weekend. I wasn't there, so I'll let Dog1 post the details.

That is very interesting to hear Blitzen. I do think that both of those judges have the wellfare of the GSD in the U.S. at heart and are past the point of politics.

I agree, Rik. I understand the judges did not agree on the same dog for winners, but I think they both did what they felt was the right thing and went with the dogs they liked. They looked at the correct end of the lead.

Blitzen,
Who are the dogs you are referring too? I'm surprised there wasn't a bigger showing there.

yea Blitzen, give up the info. Who were the dogs. I have to think one of them was Waiko. He is perfect for GSDCA/AKC.
Randy and I talked about this last year.
Jim, where is "there". Inquiring minds want to know.
