I sure wish I knew which lines weren't producing liver. I bred a WG working lines bitch linebred on Yoschy to a Czech import, and got two liver puppies. So it was clearly coming from two European sources.

but what if you bred ...lets say 2 working line sables together in turn you got 6 sable 1 solid black 1 brindle and the brindle turns out to be the ''best'' ie more civil ,amazing grips, level headed etc ( sire and dam both DNA tested) would you breed then knowing the traits would/could be passed down ..........JMO

If I got a brindle puppy in the scenario you described, and I had both parents and all puppies including the brindle dna tested (not the "light" test either - the genetics test confirming parentage) - then I would not have a problem with the brindle puppy - I'd tell everyone I had a brindle puppy - so cool - I do love brindle - I have a brindle chihuahua I tell everyone she is a toy dutchie (and amazed at how many people believe me). - of course I would have the papers proving it was purebred available to show.  The problem would be, how would you register it?  Brindle is not an accepted color for the breed.

Someone earlier said that there are black and tan/red Working Line German Shepherds.  Do anybody have a link to any of these dogs?
thanks much appreciated.

It's true, brindle was at one time an allowable color pattern, until the standard was changed.  Here's a copy of one of the earliest english translations (1921) of the german standard before that change took place.  Pure white and long coats were also permitted at the time, but those being "recessive", have not beed completely eradicated from the breed as easily as brindle.

Speaking of whom, Falk is another  example of a really nice non-sable working line dog.
