If all esle fails, I can throw a box together in about an hour after so many of them. I have plenty pf scrap wood from the new kennel building. Tell Carl to get a move on before she has them in your BED. :-O Been there, done that, not pretty what happened to the goose down quilts and pillows.

Yes, in the bed has been my consistant threat to him...the box is mostly constructed, but we had to have a little arguement over the specs...4x4 became 4x3....the sides are now 36" tall..(?!?), and he wanted to put swinging doors in the front...I had to remind him- WHELPING BOX....not sun room.......!!!!!!! jh

Oh come on !! She deserves the Sun room !! LOL !!

3 feet tall with swinging doors!???? lol, is he making her a saloon? some men take a simple job and try to make the taj mahal! i have one of those men too.... gotta luv em. hope you and your girl are doing okay.

Well, there it is! The Taj Mahal it's not, but there might be enough room once the pig rails are in. You can tell Kali likes it! And it's big enough for me to curl up in. I threw in some old shredded bed linens, my old t-shirt, my old flannel sling cover, and I have a fleece puppy bed that has a pocket under it for a hot water bottle, heat lamp is set up....and here's the coolest thing; I felt a puppy move this am! Kali & I were sitting in the new box, just thinking about what else we would need, & I had my hands on either side of her belly, and under my left palm I felt a flutter! Definately not digestive movement. Her AM temps are hanging right around 100=/- 1/10th of a degree or so. So she has a place to make her nest, not as good as under the front porch, I realise, but a place just the same. And it's a place I can reach.! jackie harris

Jackie ,
That is fantasic ! Hurray for the Hubby !!
I might just add one caution.
The blankets and such that you have in the box, would concern me, because the female does a ton of spining around and the blankets can get balled up. Which, with little wiggly puppies trying to find mom, they could get trapped in between layers. Which is more of a concern when you can't be the available to watch them all the time.
If you want to use them to absorb the majority of the fluid that will happen as she is giving birth, that would be an option.
I would then get them out of the box, and put one solid piece of carpet reminant, or blanket , or something that will not allow puppies to crawl under edges or seems.
Good luck !
p.s. Did you talk to your vet about Oxcytocin ?

by Kalibeck on 26 February 2008 - 17:02
Will be talking with him more on Thursday, & will mention Oxcytocin at that visit. Blankets and such will not be staying in the box, just wanted some stuff with our scents on them for now, to help her get used to the box. We have a strip of carpet remnant in there now, with more on hand to replace it if it gets soiled. Hubby will be glad SOMEONE gave him a thumbs up, I've been ragging on him over that box for a week now, he actually told me to go back to work last night, since I was home on my night off! The very nerve! Anyway, I think it's just dandy, as long as Kali likes it, we're good! And thanks for all the help!!! jh

How are you & mommy doing ?

by Kalibeck on 28 February 2008 - 16:02
Today is a super busy day! Took Wolf in for his x-rays, the vet reviewed them with me, they look good, there were some very mild changes due to his age, and the femoral necks "could be a little longer", but overall, pretty good. She was pleased. She also said, "That dog has the best temperment I've seen in a long time!" So....Kali is now at day 54, very round, very clingy. I'm thrilled that there were no major problems found....now we just wait for the OFA determination. jackie harris
