LOL
The Europeans seem to be able to separate the sexual appetite with the illusion of monogamy in marriage much better than us, Americans.
Mistresses and consorts in royal courts throughout history, and even the French president (what was his name? I forget), not too long ago, appear to be flaunted and such liaisons suffered them no consequence to their political statures.

Yes, and thank the republicans for pandering to the christian fundamentalists and making what happens in the bedroom relevant to what happens in the Oval Office. It's such a great idea to give them the power to choose the next couple of SC Justices.

I think it is the ideal of those standards that is what matters, especially in someone trusted to be our moral judge and social conscience.
Certainly not the literalness of fundamentalists, in any religion for that matter. To reject any valuable moral guidance that is universal to humankind is not wise, either.

Why can't people realize universal moral codes? The supposition is that we are more alike, than not. When we don't believe that, one group is bound to think they are superior to others. Or, is it some sort of alien life you are objecting to with the word universal, that their morals might include the plotting of human beings demise?
Here is a good universal moral code to live by, and I think it was Thumper from Bambi, who said it.

There can be universal moral codes but it would require the complete overhaul, if not destruction, of the cultures of some people.
You said, "When we don't believe that, one group is bound to think they are superior to others." The irony is that in creating a universal moral code there would be a recognition that one culture is superior to another.

Spartans' laconic culture is more at an empirical existence unique to them, and definitely not a universal moral code, either. IMO.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." That is an example of a universal moral code said by a man.
