Just gonna pop back in.

I went to watch the Ring 3 dogs at the NARA championship and talked to a few people about GSDs.

One person knows the breeder I've chosen and all of her dogs and said I should have no problem, so long as I get a suitable pup.
But of course, they said if my goal is to compete and to be the BEST, then to get a mal. But that is not my goal, fortunately. I simply want to get a GSD and be able to enjoy the sport. Title, yes, but not aim to be the best.

Was even told I shouldn't have an issue getting to the high levels with a GSD. Going out and talking to people, seems like what it really boils down to, in this order is:
1) Quality of the club
2) Dedication of the owner
3) The dog

Really enjoyed myself. Can't wait to get out and get involved/talk to more real world/local folks. :)

AKC OB and performance people will tell you the same thing - GSD's are good at everything, but not always the best. Want a top OB dog, get a golden or a lab.
