I believe what it all comes down to is what we allow our dogs to experience in there training and how much time a handler and helper spend working a dog in all the phases of drive. In my opinion the "sport" has taken president and many dogs are worked solely in prey for the picture and the sport.

I look at Schutzhund as a form of training that should expose the dog to all facets of training more then just concern for just the competition field Schutzhund should be a training for a test that no longer exists on the trial field and only the handler can make the decision to make sure there dog is exposed to a full range of training.

I,ve always felt Schutzhund should still be a breed worthiness test and that has much more to do with what maximum points one can receive on the trial field.

I take nothing away from the Trial competitor, I train with people who continually compete and take high awards in National and World competition  the time and money spent in the training of these dogs is astounding and they have all my respect.

I believe organizations such as the AWDF are on the right track with the focus of the dog in it,s protection competition with some of the requirements for there levels of achievement.

I believe Schutzhund should be a solid foundation for the dog to continue in any facet of higher training PPD,PK9,Search and Rescue, any Service related function the K9 excels in. Schutzhund should be a test of temperament, drive, and bidibility...
