Jenni,
I am ashamed to say that it took me 7 tries and I raise and train GSD's.  Wow what an eye opener.  I guess this proves why there's so many misconceptions.  Put me back in the learning curve. LOL

Comments (3)JACKSON, Miss. --
The pit bull authorities believe fatally mauled a 6-year-old girl will most likely be put to sleep sometime this week, Hinds County officials said Monday.

Anastasia Bingham was playing in the snow in front of her Terry home Friday morning when she was attacked and killed by a dog.

Animal Control officers later captured a dog near the Green Drive home she shared with her grandmother. However, the Hinds County Sheriff's Department still isn't sure if it's the dog that killed Anastasia. When authorities found the pit bull, they said there were five other stray dogs in the area. No one has come forward to claim the dog, officials said. It was being held Monday at the Animal Rescue League in Jackson.

In response to the child’s death, Hinds County Supervisor George Smith said he will propose banning pit bulls from the county. Right now, the county ordinance requires dogs to be on a leash, behind a fence or inside a house. Smith said the law is not being obeyed as it is written, so he wants it to be strengthened to include a ban.

Since 2008, Tony Evans Jr. was killed after he wandered close to a chained pit bull on Tuesday at a home at 112 Maple Ridge Drive in Jackson. The dog was able to reach Evans and bit him in the abdomen. The owners agreed to euthanize the dog.
Smith said since Evans’ death, there has been discussion of banning pit bulls, but nothing has been done.
“We may have to single out pit bulls, and the reason I say that, every incident I've heard about like this, it came from a pit bull,” Smith said.
Smith said no law will work unless people obey it, that's why he also wants harsher penalties for those who violate the animal control ordinance. Smith said he will bring the issue up during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting.
Hinds County Animal Control officers pick up between three and seven stray dogs a day. Many of the dogs go to the Animal Rescue League. Others go to the Hinds County Penal Farm as part of Second Chance Pet Partners. Inmates participating in the program work with Maj. Teresa Gardner to train the strays, which either become service dogs, or are adopted.

That was a tough test Jenni, but they showed puppy pics of the Boerboel which is kind of a cheat but oh well.  My good friend has a Boerboel and he is the most laid back dog I have ever met, huge!!!!!!!

This was also posted on the TV website. I found it interesting, although I'm not sure why they left out number 3.

Study that appeared in APPLIED ANIMAL BEHAVIOR SCIENCE

Most Aggressive Dogs:
1.  Dachshund
2.  Chihuahua
3. (Left Blank)
4.  Akita
5.  Australian Cattle Dog
6.  Pit Bull
7.  Beagle
8.  English Springer Spaniel
9.  Border Collie

This is where the list stops. But its pretty interesting to say the least.

So, not only are they going to kill the dog they caught, who they admit they have no idea that he/she killed the little girl, but now they are going to ban ALL Pit Bulls, even though, just to reiterate, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT DOG ATTACKED THE LITTLE GIRL. Gotta love government logic. Did I miss something??? They said there were 5 strays in the area (if it was indeed a stray and not a dog someone quickly hid).   I also can't imagine leaving my 6yr old outside alone long enough for the child to be killed and not see a thing.

Tuff, I like your honesty and willingness to say you may have jumped the gun on generalizing. ;-)

Yeah, the Boerboel pup was kind of cheating. I agree.

You talk about insane. Wow, it sounds like I'm jumping the fence.  I still hold my position on out of control dogs but you are correct in that I am stepping back from the "every pit is a killer" position.

A bedroom city that ajoins Mississippi's Capital City of Jackson has passed what I consider to be the most insane "vicious dog law" I have ever heard of. In short it states, "The following breeds, Pit Bulls and Wolf Hybrids, are considered to be vicious dogs and must be registered with the Sheriff's office and tagged with a computer chip.  Also, no more than one of these breeds are allowed at any one residence or place of business." These are the only two listed.

What is so crazy about this law is that I once lived in that city and to the best of my recollection Wolf Hybrids were never a problem.  Talk about stupid government regulation.

When I lived there we did have a neighbor with a angry Dalmatian and somewhat psychotic Westie.  BUT NEVER SAW A WOLF HYBRID.
