The high is going to be 1 F, then it will gradually warm up as the week goes on. They say this unusual cold is as a result of the Jet Stream weakening, due to global warming.

The coldest place I've ever lived is Edmonton, Alberta. I checked THEIR temp this morning, and they are a relatively balmy -10 C compared to our -24!

You should see what I'm wearing right now to keep warm. When I went out to do the kennels, I didn't want to get dressed, because I'd only have to undress to take a shower and wash my hair. (I cleaned the ashes out of the fireplace yesterday, and my hair got cake with fine ash.)
So, I was wearing a nightgown and dressing gown that goes just below the knee. Overtop of that I put a beautiful off-white knit poncho with sleeves that my mom made for me. Since it flops forward when I'm bending over, I secured the waist with a colourful scarf. I don't want anything flopping forward when I'm tending the fireplace, believe me!
Then, to protect my bare legs, I pulled on a pair of jeans! I was going to put on my rubber boots, but decided my old worn-out slip-on shoes with the holes in the toes would be all right, as I did clear the main aisle between the two banks of runs yesterday.
The dogs didn't laugh, bless 'em!

But MAN, is it COLD out there! One of the dogs must have spilled its water bowl, and pushed the wet blanket against the guillotine door. Blanket was frozen solid....

Guillotine doors have their uses, but they are a BAD BAD idea in wintertime in our climate.
There's not much more I can do to make it warmer. I've already got 2 electric heaters going, and have stuffed every crack with insulation, and have rolled towels pressed against the bottom of the doors to help stop drafts. I've also stuffed most of the guillotine doors with insulation from the outside.

Sometimes in the middle of the night when I go out to get firewood I'm wearing an old jacket and gloves, nothing else..lol
I'm out of the deep freeze now from the blizzard that didn't happen.

Moons, If I were you, I'd at least wear SOMETHING over my nether regions! PJ bottoms, jeans, boxers, whatever...
Always the chance of dropping a piece of wood, or even slipping and falling.

hows the healing process coming along?
Are you going to need the surgery?
Hopefully you'll be as good as new by the time summer gets here.
Sunsilver,
I'm usually half asleep, not to be graphic but I've always slept without and in the middle of the night I just wanna get it done and get back into bed..lol
I need the jacket and gloves because of the wood it's easy to get a cut or a splinter, even poison Ivy from old vines still stuck to the bark.
My biggest worry is a cold nose sneaking up on my from behind, that's happened a time or two..lol
Now that I have neighbors I gotta watch for them driving by and seeing the old naked man splitting wood.

LF gave the old man a left hook, that's how she broke her hand. LOL
I could tell a story how me and one of the neighbors got stuck together in the middle of a busy road in the cold, all she had on was a flimsy bathrobe that the top portion flopped wide open and we were stuck together with cars going by and tooting their horns.
It's a long story and I think I posted it before, it wasn't funny at the time, but it is now. LOL
