Hundmutter, the veterinary reproductive specialists are certainly in a better position to analyze whether never leaving a post-pyo bitch 'open' when she cycles is the best preventative to a repeat bout with pyo than any of us are--and even veterinary repro specialists tend to favor *fewer* dogs having puppies than more of them, despite the fact that it would cut into their practice to a degree, because they still know how many dogs are euthanized each year because they weren't placed in permanent homes for various reasons.

So if that's what the repro vets recommend, I'm inclined to believe their analysis.

For the record, lest anyone think I'm on board for letting all intact bitches breed on each cycle, from their second cycle until they finally stop cycling, I am NOT in favor of the practice from an ethical position.  Fact is, I believe that there are far more dogs, of both sexes, out there which are doing nothing to benefit anyone save for someone's checkbook when they're reproducing, than there are those which are TRULY breedworthy and perpetuate strong, healthy bloodlines, regardless of the breed involved.  'Good' dogs are everywhere, frankly; it's the OUTSTANDING ones that should be used for breeding. That's never gonna happen, though. It's far too complicated.

If only the outstanding dogs were the ones being bred, there would be no room for "improvement of the breed"....not a bad concept, but unrealistic since what is "outstanding" to one person, differs to the next. Dog shows with BOB should theoretically produce the outstanding dogs best suited for breeding, but that's a whole 'nuther topic.

That's why I said it's too complicated and never going to happen, joanro.

Lets let this thread die.

Breeding an almost 9 year old female?
We all agree, unless you have several incredibly rare factors falling in line, should be the rare exception, not the rule.

Hexe....you were right from the beginning....opinions and feelings may be against you, but facts are on your side.....I really make very few decisions on feelings and non factual opinions.
