Not really the way it happened...the users added pedigrees. Somebody did a lot of work entering or converting most of the first 100 years of the breed before the site launched.

How much was done by Oli?
I remember coming here a few years back and so many
dogs were missing in the pedigree's. I did not use this
data base. It is the last 2 years the data base has been
a big help. And I think that is because people saw a light at
the end of the tunnel, and spent their time filling in the blanks.
It is the members not Oli, that do most of the work.

your post is deleted. And than you get threats
and intimidation. What does that sound like?

It is Oli's site and if you don't like HIS rules please contact him! Oli has stated he wants to make a spot for topics that are not allowed here anymore. Please give him time!
Now as far as posting things where people could be ignored I can't see how that would work.
People just would not be able to resist to say something to complain , or to be mean or hateful. Here's an example:
We are going to allow some off topic. Ninja posted about something in his life that has taken a year to do and was very proud of it! It fit into the guidelines of off topic posts. Most people enjoyed it and commented nicely. However, there were a couple of people who could not resist complaining! They could have just not clicked into the comment or left as soon as they saw it was of no interest to them, but they didn't and thats how the fighting begins! Now imagine a more controversial thread....
We are trying our best to do what Oli wants! We didn't make the rules we're only following what we need to. Please have some patience, I've heard there is always a light at the end of the tunnel!

I would start a threat called Here is
your members....But it will get deleted.
Don't panic....healthy disagreement is a good thing.

In your example
We are going to allow some off topic. Ninja posted about something in his life that has taken a year to do and was very proud of it! It fit into the guidelines of off topic posts. Most people enjoyed it and commented nicely. However, there were a couple of people who could not resist complaining! They could have just not clicked into the comment or left as soon as they saw it was of no interest to them, but they didn't and thats how the fighting begins! Now imagine a more controversial thread....
Ninja would be the one to put those people on ignore. And anyone else who feels their posts aren't worthwhile. If Ninja isn't reading their posts, then regardless of what they post, Ninja isn't going to respond. It's hard to have a one sided fight.
The concept isn't that the trolls will ignore people, the concept is that people will ignore the trolls. If they aren't getting the reactions they want from the people they like to harass, taunt, whatever, they eventually just go away. And if they don't, people who don't want to see their posts, don't, so they may as well have gone away.
It's very obvious that certain people on this board don't like each other, even I see that and I probably only read 10% of the threads in the General Topic section, since the GSD specific ones usually don't interest me. Its probably asking to much that both people in a personal war ignore each other, but if only one decided to, it could stop a lot of arguments and flaming before it even gets started. Making the mods job easier.
But like the people have pointed out repeatedly, it's Oli's site. He, not me, not the other members, not the mods, can decide if the feature has value and is worth coding or not.

Max: Regarding your statement that if you express an opposing view your post will be deleted:
NOT true under the current policy.
Expressing an opposing view point is fine, healthy and encouraged, provided it is expressed in a civil manner. Subsequent posts that do nothing but repeat that point of view might be construed as redundant and argumentative. The poster may be quietly approached, the mods may try to work it out in PMs, but ultimately sometimes posts may have to be deleted/edited.
We feel that deleting/editing posts should be the last resort, but sometimes it becomes necessary.

This is all anyone is asking for...that it is not only
aceptable but it is encouraged as policy.
I like Kieth and value his opinion... If I am in
error and he corrects me, than he has helped
me....I don't see that as a bad thing but it necessary
for productive communication....
Thanks Z for your help, I had no idea it was policy.
I thought it was not acceptable to question things..
With penalty of banishment, if you dare step out
of line....I have 3 Pm's in my box from a moderator
telling me I am nothing more than a trouble maker, an rebel
rouser....A bad, bad, bad person.
I don't insult people, only try to educate them.
