A single strain of fur from a sable patterned dog, has more than one color on it..That is what the term sable means......"More than one color on each strain of fur"
Most are black sables because the color furtherest from the body is black. I have seen sables where the color furtherest from the body was red, therefore it was called a red sable.....In all sable colored dogs, the lightest color on each strain is closest to the body......
There are dogs that have saddles that are sable in color....These are also considered sables because the fur that makes up the saddle pattern has more than one color on each strain of fur....However, this color pattern should not be used to describe a washed out saddle....
I did not start this thread to cause problems or make trouble. It the ones who reply that turned it into what it has become......Obviously I do not know everything and I am not afraid to admit it.....But I do know alot more than some on here who proclaim to know alot, but yet never have anything educational or value to contribute about the breed. Everyone can learn from everyone else.....Its just a matter of if the information is worth learning.....

The dogs whose color we are calling "sable" have THREE-TONE guard hairs.
Which is precisely why the originator of the breed preferred to refer to dogs of these color patterns as "wolf", "grey" or "agouti".
Agouti specifically refers to three, or more, bands of colors on the hairs.

2 colors per hair = sable
3 colors per hair = agouti.
How many colors do your "sable" dogs have? Mine has three per guard hair.

<<Show me where it says more than one color on a single strand of hair?>>>
Ok Mudwick, I'll leave that up to you, since we have both contributed the same information....Obviously SP just wants to debate this, and he will probably listen to you, because I don't know anything......
