I own a daughter of Digger vom haus Lena
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/509711.html
who is out of Michigan (vom Haus Huro). She's drivey (reminds me of a Malinois), a natural methodical tracker and was recently awarded a VP rating in her puppy class. He (Digger) offers a bit of a change of pace from the usual Canto-Quanto-Mutz bloodlines routine that seems to be everywhere in showline pedigrees. Digger is a Frei von der Gugge bloodline dog and it shows in his drives and protection. He's also just turned 3 years old and has recently earned his SchH1 and AD. He's definitely a dog to keep an eye on as a potential stud. Were it not because I own his daughter, he'd be in my list of candidates for breeding a good looking showline dog with outstanding working potential. Of those mentioned here, I'd consider for my female the following:
NATZ VOM LAND MECKLENBURG
Santo von der Neuen Welt
Kaluv v Whirlingthunder
Ork Von Der Werther-Muhle
Juneau vom Haus Tyson
Frisco vom Usinger Schloss
I've also seen Kaluv vom Whirling Thunder and I second that recommendation for him as an excellent universal sieger type dog.

We have 3 Yash sons in our Schutzhund club. All 3 turn 1 today (Happy Birthday, Ron, Atticus and Jet!). This is our first experience working with showline dogs and I will say we are very pleasantly surprised. Full, calm bites and a great desire to work with the handler. I'll try to post a pic later.

I have read through this thread several times and want to say that I appreciate the information shared.
Would like to ask if any of you have observed any level of "hardness" and/or civil aggression in any of these dogs (or others) or their progeny. The ability to withstand real pressure.
I find Chris's comment on Marko and civil aggression interesting as I have found her to be very straight forward when describing her dogs, both good and bad.
I hope to breed my S/L bitch in Nov. and would like to identify any particularly strong studs available.
Thanks for any info. PM if you wish.

Rik:
My basic concern in the distribution of showline studs is that neither Canto nor Quanto was known for "civil" behavior. Mutz is another matter, and so is my favorite bloodline dog, Frei von der Gugge. In the haste to have overly compliant dogs to easily train, many bloodlines have been let go by the wayside. to point one out, Marko vom Cellerland could have been quite useful in maintaining a proper aloof temperament in many bloodlines. Go and try to find a Marko-V-C male... I prefer dogs with civil temperament and a healthy defense drive over the hectic prey drives we occasionally see. Ideally, I'd like to see a dog so clear headed in bitework that you get the feeling that there is intent, premeditation and malice behind his bite rather than an exercise of "play" & reward.

Fatto Vlady-sal is a really great biting dog that has an exceptional temperament and down right beautiful too.
Strong dog that is giving working dogs a run for their money!
Bruce McNab has him and uses him as his demo dog.

There are good V rated dogs from Marko vom Cellerland but they just aren't Black and Red. Look up the dogs in the Maineche kennels, they are mostly V rated in conformation, go back to Marko and of course have superb temperament for the work. Must they be black and red to be great conformation dogs.....I think not!

Jingo vom Mahlsdorfer Grund is nice - young dog and his owner/trainer/handler story is interesting!
Yash (littermate to Yukon) is a fav of mine.

Griff Temar obtained his Sch 1 at the Canadian Western Regional Championship in May where he was the high Schutzhund 1. Two months later he became the 2010 Canadian National Vice Seiger at the age of two years and two days old. He is a direct paternal line to Mutz von der Peltierfarm through Dux Cuatro Flores / Hill Farbenspiel ... Griff is already showing his mother's strong working abilities. He will be judged (unfortunately out of coat) in a few weeks from now at NASS.

His mother Ule Temar was the Team Canada alternate for the WUSV World Championship in Krefeld last year. She's also the 2008 USA Universal Siegerin. A strong female with solid nerve, she's sired by Ghandi Arlett, well known for passing on his work ethic. Ule's last litter was sired by Javir Talka Marda. Seven of those puppies are in working homes.

Karen Sinclair is the owner/handler of both Griff and his mother Ule and they live near Vancouver, British Columbia. Nice choice for the West Coast.

I'm always complaining about the gene-pool being too shallow, as well as the showline standards opn color, and I'd like to broaden the question to Working lines dogs that are not only of excellent conformation, but that could also excel in the show ring if they were to compete there.
I'm interested in eventually breeding a show line dog that can work well, and I agree that the majority of S/L dogs are not bred to work hard and see a reintegration of the lines as the only reasonable way to merge their better characteristics.

Wise Guy, I saw Jingo get his Sch.1 at a trial in Birmingham. 95 in C. If I rember correctly, he was the only s/l there. Also spoke quite a bit with Jeff, the owner.
