Well, I agree with some and disagree with others on this thread.  Bob-O, you come to mind as one I agree with.  It is a very tragic story with a sad ending.  It sure seemed like a nice working dog.  Unfortunately, we don't know all of the details.  I know from personal experience that you can only believe a fraction of what you read in the paper.

I am going to wait and reserve my judgment until more details come out.  My dogs are often loose in my yard behind 6' privacy wooden fences with gates with double locks when I'm home.  I have a kennel area that is surrounded by a 6 foot fence as well, so if I go out' the dogs are behind two 6' fences.  Still. I worry about my K9 getting loose.  It could happen, gates can be left open, wind can knock fences down.  I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to let my dog out of his kennel.  It would be a bad day if they did.

Very sad.  I don't think that speculating and arguing over this will solve anything or get us closer to the truth.  I think we need to wait and hope the whole story comes out soon.  There is a lot that can be said, but little will matter until we get more details.

This was a trained K9. It should have never been put in a position where someone could let it out or be able to escape! Total irresponsibilty of the owner and the dog paid with his life. Period.

Why can't these LEO with dogs in kennels at their homes use LOCKS?
How many times does this have to happen?
Why aren't these dogs kenneled INSIDE?

It's a shame how many K-9s have died due to simple lack of common sense.
Never mind the taxpayers that take it in the shorts when something like this happens.

Nothing at all to do with Guns i am talking about 16 year olds carrying knives around with them when they are pursuing a different past time which bears no relation to Knives so why the need to carry them and again it is nothing to do with the Dog which is very unfortuate and sad and has been given the blame on all this by many on here without anyone knowing the real facts
i simply asked why was a person so young carrying a knife and more to the point what sort of knife I know it  legal to carry a Gun so there fore i guess you can carry any weapon of your choice then and use it as you think fit
Yet for me to even get into the country i have to apply for a bloody Visa  this and that and answer this question and that question and be treated like a criminal and i am then still in the customs department
Yet once i do get in, if they think fit to do so,  i can then i guess go and buy a Knife and Gun for my own protection yet it will take weeks of work and hassle just to set foot outside the damn airport of my choice over there in the USA and why do i know because i was kindly invited to come over and see a big National event  in May by one of the Guys on here,
And i certainly have nothing against the USA or its people i have several friends on here and outside the Forum from the USA it is just individuals that i do not take too the same as they do not towards me but that means nothing to them or me, and as i said in the past i have worked among the USA military of the USA and got along fine we had too and probably before you were hatched out
My last on this subject i hope the full detalis of what happened does come out into the open for it is wrong for it to left as it is

i understand steve
we cannot use the weapon the way we see fit though
even defending yourself with a concealed weapon
can have serious reprucussions!!!!!!!

is the event in indy the one you are refering to?
if so you would be literally 5 minutes from my home
and it would de neat to meet

my thing about your remarks about the usa is it
always seems that the context you say "over in the usa" is
in a demeaning way
but glad to hear its not so

btw i am only 34 so i am sure it was before i was hatched!!!lol

No' i have never meant it in any demeaning way, really there is no other way to say it,  like over there in the UK is just the same nothing is wrong in the way it is said.
And if i was so much against the people and the country then i would not be posting on here for i think a good percent of posters are American and come from the States
Yes, i believe that is the venue i was refering too but i do not know if i will get there now, but we will have to see

If you would read the articles correctly you, you would notice the dog was NOT left unattended. The officers wife was at home & came outside shortly after the incident happend.

While I agree that the dog should not have been out of it's kennel, I feel the kids either let him out or pestered the dog enough that he found a way out. From the way the kids acted & from witness reports these kids did something wrong & they know it. Now they are trying to cover their butts to avoid trouble. Heck the one kid that took off in his car still hasn't come forward.
I will side with the dog until it's proven otherwise!

Steve1, I hear what you are saying about Visas.  My family and friends have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get a simple Visa.  I remember about 10 years ago, various friends of my parents who owned all kinds of property in the US could go back and forth without lots of B.S.  One of my parents friends is the son of the gentleman who helped rescue the Lippizan horses during WWII and has a place here in Myakka City Florida.  He, and others like him, have a heck of a time coming here now.  It has become very difficult.  Yet certain other countries have no problem coming here.  Things that make you go hmm........

As for knives, I carry one and have most of my life as has my mom, dad, brother, husband, and son.  We also have legally registered guns.  I agree with Bob-O "I truly feel that a well armed society is a most safe and polite society".  I remember working some heavily crime ridden areas of Detroit.  The gang-bangers would tell me that when it came to getting into a gang, there were two types of homes that they would send the prospects on depending upon whether they wanted the prospect to succeed or not.  If the prospect was to succeed, he was told to look for a house that had a Volvo, Subaru, or "stop hand gun violence", "support the Brady Bill" stickers, these homes don't have guns.  Avoid the homes that have pickup trucks, NRA stickers, or muscle cars, they have guns and know how to use them.  Out of the mouths of criminals......

Hope you make it here and have a great time.

When i was in the Boy Scouts Yes, the Motto was Ah Ka La  ;be prepared; But it did not mean to carry a Knife but as we were at times camping we carried the knife on a clip on our belts and it was a simple small closed two bladed pen knife with a bottle opener and can opener with it
These 16 year olds were not doing any Scout duty and there fore why carry a knife and of what size or type of knife was it
However many of you think the carrying of such things a  perfectly normal  practice for young people to carrying weapons which i find very strange for if it was one of your own on the receiving end then i would expect you not to say it was the perpetrators fault but just a young mans bit of fun
Sometimes i do wonder if some of you people are too frightened to walk out without carrying something for protection or maybe it is something you have grown up with, For there is always talk about there Dogs protecting them .
How is it that none of this ever occurs to me regards ever needing a weapon and i do not expect my Dog to protect me it is for me to protect the dog should the need arise, That is why i say some must live with a certain amount of fear and that is very sad, your culture certainly takes some understanding
