Well
I have come to the conclusion reading these posts that you Guys over there think you are the greatest Dog handlers in the world , So long as you think so that is okay
Lavik
It is your keeping on about the what the Helper said is why that was bought up for i do know that your reference to it more than once is trying to make me look a little soft or maybe someone without any Bottle, that is why i put it in But you seem to be a little on the slow side to grasp it, Plus the fact you are a patronizing sort of person who thinks they know it all You have worked with this or that, As i said this helper is one of the best around here For if he is no good then i wonder why he has worked several times in the USA , Malaysia etc then i do wonder why they need any Belgians to work in the USA when they have People like you there
Plus, who has not worked with the best in there countries you are not the only oneI
For starters....it is LAVK-9 not Lavik. I don't know where you get off thinking that us guys(and gals) over here think that we are the greatest dog handlers. No one ever said that!! Nothing that has been said has even meant that.
As for me...I am not slow to grasp most concepts, In the morning I might need a bit of coffee to get me going but as far as the context of things I am good at understanding what is being said.I understand that the helper didn't want you to use the harness for whatever his reason and he is a wonderful helper too. I just think he should have given you a reason that he doesn't like them. (it is a good learning thing) That is great glad that you are able to work with someone of that caliber. I too have been lucky to work with a wonderful helper that would have an attitude but if there was something he didn't like he would tell you and it might not be in a nice way but he would tell you why....there for educating me and those around. THAT is all that I was saying he should have done for you. The way YOU made it sound is that he was just some jerk of a helper that talked bad to you. Now that I know that you know him and you don't have a problem with him speaking to you the way he did. That is just wonderful!! As for being patronizing and think I know it all.No I know I don't know it all and i never said that I did.I do know alot though cause I have been able to work with some great people that compete at Nationals for SchH and other people that compete in different dog sport. Also I have been training dogs for many years. If I did know everything I wouldn't be on here seeing what advice and thoughts others had.I wouldn't care what they had to say. There are people on her that I respect and have learned some things from.Even people that say that they are not professionals. If you think i know it all then thank you!! lol As for me saying it though...I never did and I never implied it.
So relax and have a good evening.

I am a PATHETIC UNCOORDINATED dog handler. I am certainly (in dog sport) one of the least accomplished in schutzhund persons here.
I stumbled into schutzhund with my first German Shepherd in mid/late 1990's and I have not much good to say about him so he will remain nameless.
I lurched into Contra Costa Schutzund when Ivan Balabanov ran the club. So I do know what it is like to have a poor traner and a spectacular one. I used to wonder why I was even there. There was no podium in my furture. My dog was already al little too old to be on any path to glory and besides, he had me as a handler. But I got to see a lot of exciting things there performed by top international competitors, although quite a few of them had Malinois. In many competitions there would be Ivan, Kelly Martin and other club members on the podium (all breed competitions). There were a couple of world class ring sport dogs (Bomber and Kathy).
Quite frankly, I didn't always know what was going on and why something was good and why not so good. I wish I had that opportunity now and was young enough to make serious progress. I have learned a lot of theory since then.
For one thing, I didn't even know that the dog I had ten years ago was a very, very good dog.

Do you mean this picture?

That is Shadow crushing Ivan's arm while making full eye contact. Ivan said that he made a humming noise. I asked him if he was growling on the sleeve and he said no that it was very different and "interesting", that it was good.
Shadow was a big boy, Ivan is tall.

Ivan said it was not a growl, he had never had a dog that made that noise. He was the polar opposite of the Malinois. He was quiet, no random barking at all. All the oher dogs barked up a storm waiting their turn on the field.

Watching Ivan on he field slightly opening and closing his mouth, making a noise like a cat purring. Funny, funny dog.

one lady that i trained with years ago, had a very large male rotty that made what she called a "purring" sound. we all had the same discussion about what the noise really was. she invited us to work the dog ourselves so we could feel the attitude of the dog and hear the noise up close. i think the whole discussion started because someone was worried that it was growling on the sleeve. after working the dog and getting a feel for him, we came to the conclusion that the dog had such a crushing grip on the sleeve (barrel sleeve) that he was not breathing normally. what was happening was something similar to snoring. once the dog was off the sleeve, he was breathing normally again. he was a very nice dog. one of the very few rotties i would call a solid, well balanced and trustworthy dog. i don't know that this is the same situation, but i'm guessing that it is. i suspect that a rotty might be more proned to this sort of thing due to the physiology of their heads, mouths, and noses. some dogs may never be afflicted, regardless of the grip, while others might be on account of physical differences.

He does look alot like Shadow.
I have another black on now, but the only thing they have in common is Don Rolandsteich. Pharaoh's father and mother have him in their pedigrees numerous times. As Pharaoh is maturing, there is more of a physical resemblance. They couldn't be more different temperament wise.
When I was looking for another dog, I was "channeling" Shadow, but what I brought home was the reincarnation of Pancho, the devil dog. Pancho was 3/4 Chihuahua and 1/4 Pug and 100% holy terror. Pancho was very smart, and very devious.
Fortunately, Pharaoh does not have Pancho's bad temper. Pharaoh is happy almost all the time. He is slowly becoming biddable.
