Last Night i went with Izzy to my first ever Class for Showing, We all had to run round in a circle of sorts with the Dog running in front.
Well it was a laugh all the other owners and Dogs were only a third my age. Plus they had been training there dogs at it for some 4 months and everyone as expected was a Showline of course for that reason
Izzy never used to being anywhere but at my side did not want to run in front of me, so I took up rear position so i would not get in the way of the other people in the circle there were about 14 of us , Well, i could see they were moving at a fair rate and i did notice partly because both Izzy and i never had a clue as to what we were doing .i only had her on a 1m leash no one told me otherwise at the beginning, The leaders were slowly catching us up, I said to myself i will be in the lead in another half a lap if we do not move a bit quicker than we are now, so i upped the pace a bit but izzy could not understand what we were doing, Well no more than i could really,
This bit is for Stacy
Rinus was watching from inside the club house with Eric and my brother Philip, They were laughing there heads off at Izzy and me, After a couple of more laps they stopped Thank goodness the ground was frozen solid and hard on the old legs , Then they proceeded to put there Dogs in a position for showing, Well Izzy had never had it done to her before and was not having any of it
I persisted that she was going to but she wanted to sit, I finally got her in some sort of position but not good enough for one of the Judges who came over to measure her with the Stick as soon as he tried to put in the position to measure her etc she whipped her head round and grabbed the measure stick, and the guy could not make much of it, I did here one of the people say in the group, what is up with that Dog but i passed her off as a silly woman who did not have a clue, that it was Izzys and my first time ever
I got Izzy to let the measure stick go, and the Judge said to me, let me have her to get a Stand and Show you how its done, i said okay
He said move about 6 to 8 yards away which i did, Well Izzy looked at him looked at me and shot forewords towards me
the judge taken by surprise stumbled after her and went flat down on his face Izzy still trying to pull towards me with him hanging on the leash, He held on to her and got up about a yard from me.
He passed the leash over to me he looked a bit sheepish but it happens to the best and i did not laugh
As he went away i said to him
I guess we have a long way to go yet, he turned round and looked at me and that was it
One good thing was though, her height is a shade over 58 cms but i do not know if he got a proper measure of her for she was not having it
We will try again next Monday but with a longer leash now i know what is expected for us to do, I think we will both improve and the work will benefit her a lot in the weeks to come, She did walk through a group without problems but she is used to that on the work field anyway also the Gun shots do not bother her, A good hours work and i too will benefit as i know nothing of the Show side and it will be good to learn a bit plus it will get me a little fitter all in all a good night

GSDBEST, wish I could talk to that lady. Bet she could give me some serious hints on doing schutzhund without killing myself. She needs to give a seminar!
