Mmmmm... a little hysterical for me "Videx" is there another agenda going on here?

We're hardly doomed, though no doubt you enjoy the prospect OR just the wind up?

missbeeb: what is your experience and knowledge of the UK GSD Show scene? Your identity would help put any reply in context, or is that simply asking too much of you?

You can relax "Videx" I have no axe to grind and I have no intention of getting personal.  I'm not "important" (thankfully) in the GSD scene and I am not showing any dogs now... when I was, (since 1990 -in obedience prior to that) I won nothing of any real note!  Therefore, I doubt that telling you my name would be of much assistance to you... but certainly, it's not too much to ask!

I am as entitled to my opinion as you of course and I refuse to bitch back... it's fruitless!  So... no need for you to be so defensive.

Hi ALL

I Have never posted here before but after reading all these negative comments regarding  the 2 day show had to reply. What about all the good points?

1st of all congrats to all the winners over the two days. Now for all the people from south of the border. The burger van is the same van that attends most shows in Scotland and we have i never heard of any problems before regarding prices. All prices are listed before u buy so if u think to expensive dont buy ,dont blame hosting club also thier was also another food stall on site so if u thought burger van was expensive why not try other food outlet.( seems only the people from the south thought this expensive)

The kc rep is well know to most of the Scottish show folk and may be L.B. will back me up here when i say the worst show in Scotland  this year was  the clyde vally open show when you would have heard a pin drop and any movement at all was being classed as attracting ur dog as the KC rep put her chair at the middle of the ring and read a paper only to raise here head when she heard any attraction..I heard a committee memder at the 2 day asking folk not to run as the KC rep was standing at the next corner and found it funny that 1 chap was hiding behind the KC rep attractting his dog,so i would assume not a regular visitor to the Scottish show scene. IF any one who attended the SKC will remember that as soon as the gsds were given the ring 6 stewards appeared around the ring, lets just hope that the KC are not using Scotland as a testing ground (like the goverment with the pole tax and smoking ban)and the English shows are next on the KC hit list

Ok  the rings may have been on the large side but is the usual complaint on this site that the rings are to small for champ shows u cant please everyone. Why were they to big everyone not fit enough to run round attracting dogs ?why did people find main toilet block to far away when they could run round ( the very large rings) all day!!!!

now lets look at the judges - Dog judge -judge in sweden since 1973 -sv judge since 1982 and also breed Kormeister.Bitch judge- judge for 40 years and involved in training new Swedish gsd Judges ,lack of experience Dont think so.Cant u remeber the female uk  judge who used to use a pin in her skirt to measure dogs a against her leg ?

by snp on 25 July 2008 - 23:07

CONT.

Lets look at the double handling, did someone not mention ring stewards being rude i think not !!

The champship judge comment u should Know better - did this champ judge  very recently not ask for everyone to stop running at the show he was judging so he could see dogs in natural gait ? so why disrepect a fellow judge when he asks for the same. Also note that we also had at least 3 champ judges handling in the same class who were also encouraging double handling.

As for the steward calling the one person an idiot i also agreed with this, did no one notice that the guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs had a stand at show and when this idiot burst through barrier and pushed by stewards that he almost knocked over a blind person the KC would have had a field day if that had happened?

AS for the comments made by Videx, u did not even attend the show!!! why did u do some research on the judges and find that if dog judge thought a dog was oversized he would measure it. What would happen to the uk show scene if the top winning dog(ice) was put down the line for being oversized please dont be angry. Mr PAYNE just look back at some of ur comments on this board . The previous thread about the 2 day( no cameras) i have booked my hotel and whoa beside anyone trying to interfere with my enjoyment in Scotland this year,I will haggis bash them!!!!! Did u not also on a previous thread agree to have ice measured and donate £10 to every champ dog who turned to be measured at the show, to the gsd welfare and then not turn up ur self... Remember actions speak louder than words!!!!

FOR ALONG TIME U HAVE TRIED TO GET CCs Removed from the scottish show scene time u gave up mate while the rest off the uk may be struggling the scottish clubs are enjoying an increase in membership.

WELL DONE TO THE COMMITTEE MORE STALLS AT 2 DAY FOR LONG TIME AND EXCELLENT GROUNDS

PS. CANT REMEMBER LAST TIME I GOT CHANGE FROM A FIVER AFTER BUYING 4 PINTS AT NIGHT OUT .

Hi snp

Sorry I can't agree with you regarding the Clyde Valley being the worst show in Scotland this year. Yes the KC field Officer did spoil the atmosphere somewhat but people where in good spirit, it was a nice venue, the ring was a good size(not too big) the judge was competent, and the free ice cream was delicious

The burger van at the two day show as you rightly state is the same burger van that attends most Scottish shows and I have always found the prices reasonable and the girls serving to be cheerful and friendly.

The fact that the rings where too big had nothing to do with whether or not people where fit enough to run around them although I was bloody knackered. it meant that people where spread out too much and if you where at one end of the ring the dogs at the other end looked like dots on the horizon. If I had known in advance I would have brought my binoculars.

As for the Judges regardless of how many years they have been judging it dose not make them good judges. The bitch judge is the worst I have come across it took him 3hours to judge junior bitch with only 12 bitches present. All I can say is pity help the Swedish GSDs if he is responsible for training judges.

We where one of four progeny groups entered on the Saturday and one of six kennel groups entered on the Sunday. We as I am sure several of the others had gone to great expense to have t-shirts printed not to mention entering and bringing dogs. By the time judging was completed on both days it was so late that everyone packed up and left so there was no point in putting progeny or Kennel groups in the ring as there was no one there to see them. When I told the Secretary that I was not putting or Kennel Group in the ring due to the time taken to complete judging her reply was "at least we didn't need to complete judging with car headlights."

ps forgot about the free ice cream

The 2 Day show did have its flaws but what you have forgotten that this is a new committee and Secretary. They did make some mistakes but if you can stand there and say that you don’t make errors then please stand forward.  What nobody has come forward?

The K.C Field Officer was present from the start of the first day until the close of the second day – and the pressure was on for this committee – but hey the exhibitors must do what they like. You all want to show your dogs the German way and now you have complained about the size of the rings. What the matter was is that they were too big for your outside attraction people they can not cope with it? Plus with a lower entry people appeared more spread out.

Then we come to the stewards who have been criticized as abusive & scary- did Miss Sygrove bother to get her facts correct before putting it on the internet? NO she did not nor did any one else. But then she is also known to have selective amnesia at certain points.

The Stewards had been spat at – verbally abused and physically abused and when a steward reminded a handler & owner that they had not picked up their rosette & medal was told ‘stick it up your a**e’ because it wasn’t the first place that they expected. So let’s take the moral high ground and accuse some one of calling a person an idiot. Wow what a derogatory term. The person being called an idiot had totally ignored all requests to stop running around. This person told the show Managers to F***off then hit one of them. So it is wrong to call this person an idiot after that? When this person was asked if he/she was concerned that their actions could loose the club its CC’s their reaction was to shrug their shoulders – this person did not care at all. These types will then move on to another club and do the same again. Then where will you show and how will you get your tickets then?

The scary steward telling some one that they were a champ show judge and should know better had also just been told to f***off by said Champ show judge, after a request to stop running around. Here again we must take the moral high ground and ensure that all a sundry know the wrong information. You are only a silly nobody Steward who must stand there and take all the abuse that certain exhibitors feel they want to give to you but beware if you dare to retaliate you are abusive and scary!

CONTINUED.....

As for the person who wrote that it had cost them £400.00 for the weekend and to be treated like this! Just stop and for once in your life think about others and what it has cost them. The Stewards & comittee did it all for nothing – no money exchanged hands and to be treated to this onslaught is appalling.

The Dog judge actually took the microphone and asked exhibitors where their sportsmanship was? They got the wrong end of this and thought by that he meant their double handling. He meant they were not clapping and honouring the winners of the classes.

The Progeny groups and Kennel groups were robbed of their part in this. Due mainly to lengthy judging. By the time they would have been able to present their dogs everyone had gone home. Kennel groups & Progeny parades are usually done during the lunch break whilst judges are out of the way.

Exhibitors in the main were happy and enjoying the show but as per the norm in the UK we have the ones who know better and it this element that is brining down the Show Scene with their bad behaviour and bad language. Who wants to run a show with this element in it? Plus the K.C on your back.

I have a suggestion and that is to have a Virtual Dog Show. Simply write in to the Secretary requesting the place that you require and rosette – then the Secretary can return same back to you. We all gain with this one. No judge to contact no venue to hire no travelling no handlers to pay excessive fees to and best of all no K.C. how soon can this begin?

Progeny groups used to be on Sunday morning prior to judging, the Kennel groups used to be on Saturday lunchbreak, Maybe this should be taken into account for  future 2 day shows.
