Speaknow, from a scientific perspective, the GSD is the longest controlled canine breeding experiment in history. No other dog breed in the world has had more time and money invested in breeding based on behavioral testing, bodily measurement and motion performance. The GSD as a breed is highly refined over time and the FCI/SV standard is remarkably valid, in fact so valid that it is universally accepted by the top SV GSD working line kennels and showline kennels in Germany and Europe, and worldwide too. The concept purebred as used with GSD is not tenuous at all, it is rock solid, well defined and most easily understood by anyone with normal cognitive function and able to learn the FCI/SV standard. I am always amazed at just how good the FCI/SV standard actually is. It is perfect in my view and the proof is in its universal acceptance by all top SV breeding kennels, zuchtschau and profung. It's absolutely amazing at just how well developed the GSD is as a breed !

WRONG! I highly doubt that Shelly ever "lived' in Germany!! If you guys want to talk about the King's or Shiloh's -- please get your FACTS right!! That's all anyone can expect ... not gossip, or false innuendo!! http://shilohshepherds.info/

Sue is absolutely correct: this is a gsd board and those who want to tout their non-gsd breed choices, such as the King/Shiloh shepherd should ask for their own message board.
Excuse me, but WHERE in the above post is the Shiloh Shepherd being promoted?? Lara Croft asked a question about the King Shepherd. Tina corrected some false information in one of the MANY incorrect answers that were given. THAT'S promoting her breed?? She wasn't the one who brought the subject up!
Tina has her own messageboard, and does not need to ask Oli for one on the PDB. If you happen to visit there (you need to register and be approved first, and give a valid e-mail to prove you're not a sock puppet) you will be treated with courtesy and respect. Too bad people who post here can't expect the same!!

Sales are sooo slow again. So she's back for more promo.
Preston, why don't you ask Tina how long her waiting list for pups is? She gets dozens of applications every week!
Now, can we get back to discussing German Shepherds? Speaking of the King Shepherd, did you know that breeders who can't sell their oversize GSD's in Europe, now the SV has cracked down on the height limit, are selling them HERE, as 'King Shepherds'! I met one in the park the other day. Of course, the new owner hadn't bothered to ask for registration papers, which would have shown the dog was just an oversized GSD!

Okay, but how about keeping posts about these GSD derivative freaks off of this site which is dedicated to the real GSD breed? For anyone to try and compare anything about these degenerates to any work of Capt Von Stephanitz is preposterous. These two freakish "breeds" having nothing to do with real GSDs except for being outlandish complete perversions of any small portion of the GSD genetics they may have hijacked. These two so called breeds are a joke and any "public figure" ie "founder" and/or promoter of these breeds who thinks otherwise is ignorant and self-serving. It's always worse when one cons themselves first and then spews this BS like it is gospel. Anyone could buy a bunch of misbred, oversized horses with scruffy coats and bad naviculars and interbreed them to make these lousy traits prominant, and then consider them special because they limp all the time (call it a special, rare hard to get gait!). Then charge more money for them and keep pretending they are hard to get and oh so special. It's like the old story of how nice the kings new clothes are! Of course the king is naked and there are no nice clothes, but if everybody in the special little group of owners believes the delusion, new suckers can be found that will want to be part of the delusional group. It's human nature, unfortunately.

Preston, I know you don't want to hear about these dogs, but I have friends who are Shiloh owners, and YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG about them! This testimonial is fairly typical of the sort of thing I've heard from my friends, so I know it's the truth:
Hi Tina:
This is just to weird!!!! This puppy is just too amazing, so I gotta ask you a couple questions.
1) Did you somehow work with her to get her potty trained?
After having her 4 days now (taking her out the same door each time to go potty and in the same area ) this morning she "whined" by the door to go out. So I opened the door, she DASHED out to the area my husband shoveled the snow away from and there is grass there and she goes pee and poop. She did this again a little while ago to go pee ("whined" by the front door).
2) Did you "whistle" to her to have her come to you?
I can be ANYWHERE in the house. And I whistle and call her name and she comes charging to me whether playing with my husband or kids or just sleeping she comes. I can be upstairs and whistle and she just charges to come see me. I "whistle-trained" my mustang....but for a puppy, so soon, its just seems impossible...but true...she rushes to me when I whistle! "Unbelieveable" is what my hubby says.
3) Did you teach her "no"?
All I have to do is say a "STERN NO" and she quits whatever she is doing! I mean instantly!! This is too weird! Then she comes over to me, tail wagging and I praise her immensely and she just looks at me like "Oh, I love you".
She lays in the same areas as my Aussie did (on the landing half-way up the staircase), right by my feet when I read a book, under the built in desk when we eat supper -- and does not beg.)
Yesterday my son was shoveling snow and came in with a full facemask on, big boots etc. Shilo did her first grrrrrrrings when he came in. She just stood there in the hallway making this puppy grrrrrring sounds. (I couldn't believe it!!) Soon as my son took off his mask and called her name she just ran up to him and was so excited for him to pet her. My Aussie didn't grrrrrr till 5 or 6 months old I think.
Last night I didn't even put her in her "area" to sleep. I let her outside at 11pm to go potty, brought her upstairs with her doggie pillow/my old jacket to lay on, put them by my side of the bed and she slept right there till I got up at 3am to let her go potty. She came back in, ran up the steps and before I was even in the bedroom she was laying on her blankets. She laid there till 5:30am when I got up, let her out and started my day. Then at 7am I hear whining by the door and she enough she had to go potty.
All I can say is if you EVER NEED A REFERENCE FOR YOUR DOGS CALL ME!!!!!!!
This is just toooo strange. It is like we had her forever!!! I cannot explain it.... I have NEVER seen or heard of a puppy so damn smart and willing to please. My gosh Tina.....all I can say is THANK YOU~!!

Tina Barber is the one who keeps bringing this thread back from the dead, she must be desperate to sell these oversized, overstuffed couch potatoes.
"Speaking of the King Shepherd, did you know that breeders who can't sell their oversize GSD's in Europe, now the SV has cracked down on the height limit, are selling them HERE, as 'King Shepherds'! I met one in the park the other day." (sunsilver)
Where do you get this stuff? Don't believe everything Tina tells you.

by Sunsilver on 26 February 2008 - 06:02
That bit about the King shepherd has nothing to do with Tina. I was the one who met that dog and its owner. Not the first "King" shepherd I've met, either. People who don't know they' are a separate breed tend to call any oversized GSD a King. I did, too, until I knew better.
I don't need to believe everything Tina says. I've met quite a number of Shilohs and their owners, and the stories I hear from the owners are similar to what I've posted above. The dogs are hardly couch potoatoes, either. Last year I attended two tracking seminars sponsored by the ISSR. We also did some Rally-O with the dogs. Several breeds other than Shiohs attended (mainly GSD's). The Shilohs all showed good aptitude for tracking, even the very young pups. So, they're not Schutzhund material...big deal! Tina chose to breed away from the sharp temperment of some of her foundation GSD's. But I know of many that are trained for SAR, and as therapy and service dogs. Just the other week, a 20 month old Shiloh service dog probably saved his owner's life.
So, please, just asking you don't trash the breed until you've found out more about it. There is a LOT of misinformation out there.
