Hi Shelley, Congratulations on your new pup. I think Cassius is a very good, strong name. I look forward to pictures AND a link to his pedigree so we can all drool over it!

Well, I was wrong. My puppy is from the Y litter. We are naming him Yahoo. Love it... I can just hear us running around the show ring yelling Ya-hooo!

MVF,
I love Steinbeck! Caleb is from "East of Eden" (good grief, it was an Oprah pick), and as a critique, I think it can be said, Steinbeck usually goes from worse to horrible, concerning the human condition, and I remember that even more so, in "Grapes of Wrath" and "Of Mice and Men",
It is amazing how Steinbeck does it., and yet we are still left with hope in the end.

Hey Shelley,
Good for you on picking Cassius. Give a dog a name to live up t 9 or down ) to. Cassius is the name of Roman emperors...and the birthname of Muhammad Ali. Now, that's a name to live up to!!! Good looking, smart, stong and the best in the world. Good luck with him!!

Things DO change in a couple of hours, and can change even more in a couple of days. I am going out to visit Tracy first weekend of Nov. to attend VA3 Wim bullinger's V-A party and meet Tracy's dogs in person. This is something I have wanted to do for years and never seemed to get to, even when I lived in No. CA.
Tracy now has 2-3 dogs she thinks I might fall in love with. I don't know at this point who will be coming home in the crate(s?) I take instead of luggage, but rest assured, as soon as we pick each other I'll be bragging all over the place!
Those of you who haven't known me long won't remember I used to have quite a few show dogs, showed them and my working dogs in Regional and National events, even entered Vice-USA Youth Siegerin Angel Wodenthal (Shanto's Xano dgtr-below) and V Pallo Arolser Holz (Marc Herkulesblick son) in the BSZS in '98. I was out of the sport for a few years when I came to PA from CA, my last show girl passing away during that time, too busy with work to have the time necessary to compete.
One of the reasons I am so excited about my new show dog is that I have admired Tracy Bullinger's dogs since the very first USA Sieger Show, when Brew Bullinger demonstrated for all to see that some show dogs CAN and DO work, just as well or better than most working dogs. Tracy has a long history of producing such dogs, VA Wim coming over 6 generations of her breeding. I have never seen a Bullinger dog that didn't look great on the protection field! I don't know how she keeps cranking out great dogs year after year, decade after decade, but she does!
One of the youngsters Tracy is excited about my seeing is a 6x VA (3 countries, incl 2x in Germany) Kevin Murtal son. He is already showing his great stuff in training, so less of a gamble than a puppy, and, depending on his age, and the date of next year's NASS, might be ready, titled for the working dog class.
So, that's where we're at right now. Stay tuned for the good news in a couple of weeks. As MVF easily guessed, I'm heartily sick of finishing in the back of the line-up with my gray working dogs this year, sitting on my trailer drinking a Heineken by myself after warm handshakes and "Thanks for coming and supporting our event..." while everyone else is posing for pix on the podium... I am too much the competitor to enjoy that for long, hence my decision to actively pursue the aquistition of a top show prospect. More good news is that the '07 season is not quite over, so I may be able to show my new dog before the end of the year.
Yours in the sport and the breed,
SS
